Auris Audio: Premium Sound from Serbia

The Auris Audio brand is officially considered to have been established in 2013, although its founder, Milomir Trosic, had been working towards this significant event for three decades. It all began in the early 80s when Milomir started working as a DJ at a local radio station. It was during this time that he realized what modern audio components should sound like. He also began developing and assembling amplifiers for himself and his friends. According to Trosic, many of the technologies and circuits the company uses in its modern models were developed during this period.
In the 1990s, war broke out in Yugoslavia, but Milomir continued to produce speakers, concert acoustics, and amplifiers. He always preferred tube amplifiers, believing they provided the most natural and accurate sound, with warmth and softness that transistor analogs could not match. When the country was under UN sanctions, Trosic conceived the idea of creating his own brand that would focus primarily on tube amplifiers — a field in which he had already gained extensive experience.
Turntables Auris:
When the first device was nearly ready, the Serbian engineer started thinking about a name for the brand that would represent his developments. The newly founded company was named after the Latin word "Auris," which translates to "ear."
The launch of the new Auris brand was marked by the Trianta amplifier, featuring a Russian triode GM70 tube — it consisted of two monoblocks and a preamplifier. The model was developed specifically for the 2013 Munich High End Show, where it clearly impressed both visitors and organizers. This device was assembled in a single copy and was stored in Trosic’s office. Unfortunately, during a move to another building, the device was damaged — amplifiers of this power weigh around 30 kg, and the tubes protruding from the case can easily be knocked off if handled carelessly. However, the maestro is not discouraged — he is confident that based on the remaining blueprints, the company can still release a small batch of about ten units. And at its core, there will undoubtedly be the Russian-made GM70 tube.
The title of the first mass-produced tube amplifier went to the Auris Forte 150, consisting of separate monophonic blocks, each with a power output of 100 W. The device is based on two KT150 tetrode vacuum tubes and two 6SN7 triodes, which are covered by a dome made of heat-resistant tempered glass for better protection against damage. Notably, the amplifier features a hand-wound output transformer on a double C-core with a power rating of 200 W, which ensures signal linearity across a wide frequency range from 15 Hz to 50 kHz. The amplifier's design includes Mundorf capacitors, as well as WBT silver connectors and signal path wires, demonstrating Auris Audio’s commitment to uncompromising quality and sound perception.
The device’s case is finished with natural wood and leather, which has become a tradition and a signature feature of the company. Auris exclusively uses American walnut veneer and high-quality Italian leather. Milomir himself works on the design of each model, at least creating the initial sketches and drafts. Auris components not only look stunning but are also instantly recognizable, which is a valuable trait in the world of audio.
However, in the high-end category of Hi-End equipment, sound quality and everything that influences it take precedence. Trosic and his team claim that the heart of a tube amplifier is the power supply and the output transformer, and many competitors, despite using the same tubes and circuit design, cannot achieve the same sound quality as Auris. This is because the company manufactures all transformers for its products in-house.
All Auris products are produced and assembled by hand by a small group of highly qualified specialists with advanced technical education. The production is concentrated in Serbia, in three cities — Belgrade, where the company’s headquarters is located, as well as in Kruševac and Trstenik. Assembling a team of top professionals in these small towns is quite challenging — it’s not enough to find the right specialist; they must also be trained. But Miki, as Milomir is known among his colleagues, manages this task excellently. He approached it simply — by dividing the entire production process into stages and training each employee to perform a specific part of the work. However, the main burden still lies on Trosic and his closest associates.
It’s no wonder that with such an approach, Auris products are not only of high quality but also very reliable. This is evidenced by the complete absence of returns of finished products. This is not surprising, as the company’s founder intended that "every element of the audio chain should be perfect." And this rule is strictly adhered to here.
Meanwhile, word of mouth among audiophiles spread throughout Serbia and Europe about another ambitious player in the high-end league. After the first amplifier released in 2013, the company’s lineup already included a couple of popular integrated tube devices, Fortino and Fortissimo, with power ratings of 50 W and 100 W, respectively. The maestro then decided to build a high-quality headphone amplifier based on them.
In 2015, Auris Audio presented the HA-2SE tube amplifier with adjustable impedance from 32 to 600 ohms at the Munich High End show, allowing for listening with different headphones. It caused a sensation at the exhibition and won the prestigious "Best Headphone Amplifier" award. Orders flooded in, and Miki and his team managed to assemble a hundred HA-2SE sets in just a few months. After this, news of Auris Audio spread worldwide, and the company gained fame as a producer of high-end tube headphone amplifiers.
When HiFiMan Susvara planar magnetic headphones were released, representatives from the company approached Trosic with a request to create an amplifier for them. After a year of work, the company introduced the reference model Headonia, which again exceeded all customer expectations and became an undisputed bestseller. However, the downside of the new model was its high price. Therefore, at the request of audiophiles, Auris prepared another amplifier in the mid-price range of $2,500 to $9,000 — this is how the Nirvana headphone amplifier was born. It was highly appreciated by fans of premium sound, and in East Europe, it won the Dr.Head Awards 2023 in the "Best Desktop Amplifier" category.
These successes inspired Miki and his team to create more affordable portable products. Moreover, the company has extensive experience and expertise in this area — the Auris team knows how to create peripheral digital devices. This led to the emergence of another premium brand of wireless portable devices, EarMen. Initially, things didn’t go smoothly, but eventually, all challenges were overcome, and customers are now enjoying the live, uncolored sound of their gadgets.
Premium sound, impeccable craftsmanship, and refined design were immediately appreciated by clients and reputable publications. One of the company’s recent developments — the portable DAC with a headphone amplifier and preamp function, EarMen Angel, won the Dr.Head Awards 2023 in the "Best Portable Amplifier" category. Most importantly, the EISA association awarded the title of "Best Product 2022-2023" to three gadgets from EarMen: the Tradutto desktop DAC with Bluetooth, the Staccato network audio player, and the CH-Amp balanced headphone amplifier. The new company has quality and recognition in spades, while the main brand continues to grow rapidly, keeping pace with progress and the desires of its fans.
In addition to tube Hi-End amplifiers for speakers and headphones, Auris Audio recently started manufacturing
tonearms for vinyl turntables. This development happened spontaneously and unpredictably even for Miki himself,
leading him to decide to expand production to include the assembly of premium vinyl turntables. The company
currently offers four models of tonearms and three vinyl turntables: Bayadere, Bayadere 3, and Bayadere 5. As for
future products, three more models in the budget segment are currently in development.
Phono stages Auris:
Today, Auris Audio products are well-known in Europe, America and Canada, Japan, Malaysia, and Singapore, as well as in Russia and Australia — anywhere quality sound is appreciated — in more than 50 countries. Thus, the initially little-known Serbian brand, through its commitment to perfection, passion for high-quality sound, and innovative approach, has won the hearts of audiophiles and recognition worldwide.
In the future, the company will continue striving to make Auris tonearms and vinyl turntables among the best in the world, while remaining one of the most authoritative brands in the headphone amplifier market. Regarding traditional stereo, the team will continue to focus on a few products that are currently very well-known and established in the market, such as Fortissimo and Forte 150. For the EarMen brand, things are going well, but the focus now is more on increasing sales than developing new products.
