Solid State Logic

Solid State Logic (also known as SSL) is a British manufacturer of mixing consoles.

In 1969, British inventor and entrepreneur Colin Saunders was manufacturing electrical equipment for organs using solid-state relays. This is where the phrase "solid state logic" came from, which inspired the name of Saunders' company. Most of the employees had musical or sound engineering backgrounds, so they came up with the idea of ​​creating a new type of mixing console. Over the course of several years, the company constructed several prototypes and launched production.

By 1976, two units of the first A Series console had been built and sold, along with six units of the improved SL 4000 B Series console. In October 1989, the ScreenLogic digital audio workstation was introduced. The company's breakthrough in automation came in 1991 with the release of the SL 8000G and G+ models. In 1992, SSL released the Scenaria automated workstation, which supported integration with digital video and audio, and in 1993, the OmniMix platform, which supported multiple surround sound formats. 1994 marked the release of the 9000J console, which became widely popular in studios worldwide and cemented SSL's reputation as a leading manufacturer of mixing consoles and mixing systems.

Solid State Logic is headquartered in Oxfordshire, England. Consoles are manufactured, assembled, and tested in-house. Each console is branded with the customer's name. Console size also varies depending on the customer: it can range from a massive 120-input board to a miniature four-channel console. Individual products are customizable to the customer's specifications, from the console's angle to its color.
