A compact, transformerless FET condenser built to be a studio workhorse, now in a limited-edition “Red Velvet” finish. The 1973 Red Velvet Edition features the same original, handmade S23 capsule as the 023 Bomblet, along with a custom-machined resonator and switchable -10 dB and -20 dB pads. Limited to just 40 units worldwide.
THE WORKHORSE
The Soyuz 1973 is a compact FET condenser built to be a true studio workhorse. Rugged, easy to position, and comfortable on a wide range of sources, it delivers a clear, open sound with the musical character Soyuz microphones are known for. This limited Red Velvet Edition introduces a striking new finish, with only 40 units being made worldwide. Its versatility has made the 1973 a go-to choice across genres and instruments. It captures vocals with honesty and depth. On guitar amps, it shines with punch and immediacy. As a drum overhead, it presents a detailed, natural picture of the kit. And with a switchable -10/-20 dB pad, it adds power to kick drums and handles other high-SPL sources with ease.
The small form factor makes The 1973 easy to fit into tight spaces and fine-tune placement around any setup. That same flexibility extends to the stage. The 1973 has been used on major tours by high-profile artists, proving itself as dependable on the road as it is in the studio.
THE CAPSULE
The sound of The 1973 starts with the S23 capsule, the same original Soyuz capsule design found in the larger Soyuz 023 Bomblet. Inspired by the classic designs of LOMO and AKG in the early 70’s, the S23 reimagines the legendary CK12 with a custom triple-back-plate system and center-terminated design. This innovation helps give the 1973 its deep low-end, pronounced midrange, and pleasing top end that flatters high-frequency sources rather than exaggerating them.
THE RESONATOR
Inside the 1973 is a custom-machined resonator designed to reduce unwanted internal resonance while adding a degree of plosive protection. This unique resonator keeps The 1973 balanced and articulate when working up close, whether that's over a tom, a few inches from a cab, or right on top of a vocalist.
TRANSFORMERLESS DESIGN
The 1973 uses a transformerless FET circuit for a fast, direct response with excellent clarity and transient detail. The transformerless design keeps the signal path direct and the noise floor low, without sounding sterile or clinical, while letting the natural character of the capsule and source come through.
HANDCRAFTED WITHOUT COMPROMISE
The 1973, like every other Soyuz microphone, is an original design brought to life by our master machinists and engineers using traditional manufacturing techniques. Bodies are hand-turned on the lathe. Capsule backplates are cut, polished, and individually tensioned by hand. The 1973 is crafted with meticulous attention to detail and care, with no corners cut. The 1973 Red Velvet Edition includes a custom hand-machined shockmount with matching cream finish and ships in an oak suitcase.
