Description

Sony C-80 is a flagship multi-pattern studio microphone developed by the Japanese company Sony for professional use in high-quality sound recording conditions. This versatile solution combines advanced technologies, exceptional detail, and flexibility in operation, designed for both vocal and instrumental recordings. The model belongs to the category of high-tech microphones that are used in professional recording studios, broadcasting, post-production, and High-End level home project studios.

Features:

  • Primarily designed for vocals, but also suitable for recording acoustic instruments;
  • Dual diaphragm capsule to reduce proximity effect;
  • Two-component metal body construction to suppress noise levels by preventing vibration;
  • Switchable low-cut filter and -10 dB pad;
  • Includes shock mount and carrying case.

The best choice for professional musicians and sound engineers. It offers high sound quality and excellent sensitivity. The C-80 model provides clear and natural sound, capturing every nuance and detail of the audio signal. With a frequency range from 20 Hz to 20 kHz, this microphone can accurately record the lowest bass sounds and highest notes. The rich and full mid-range sound ensures clear vocal reproduction, allowing it to stand out even when mixed with other instrumental sounds. The high-frequency range reproduces even the finest nuances, such as delicate breath sounds. Overall, the simple and natural sound does not require complex post-processing.

Following the success of the C-100 microphone capsule, which has established itself with high sound quality, a new microphone capsule was developed for the C-80. The acoustic impedance on the rear panel was reduced to achieve higher sensitivity. The capsule body and rear electrode use a high-strength polyetherimide insulation structure material with high insulation (PEI) processed with high precision resin, and the capsule body and rear electrode are made of brass manufactured with high-precision mechanical processing. The diaphragm membrane is coated with vapor-deposited 24-carat gold. Thanks to the careful assembly and processing of these materials.

The Sony C-80 has an incredibly low noise level, providing a clean and distortion-free signal. This allows the microphone to be used in the most demanding studio conditions, where every note is important. Natural and clear voice recording is achieved by suppressing sharp low frequencies and noise when using the microphone up close. Forward directionality characteristics and low-frequency filter prevent the microphone from picking up surrounding and low-frequency noise, making it suitable for live broadcasts.

When recording acoustic guitars and pianos, instrument characteristics such as string guitar scratch and body resonance are realistically reproduced with stable, extended low levels and a natural overall balance. The dynamic and rich sound also brings instruments closer to the listener.

Dual diaphragms reduce the proximity effect. Natural vocals and voice recording are possible even when the sound is delivered close to the microphone. The low-frequency filter eliminates unwanted low-frequency noise, and the switch key function minimizes distortion caused by excessive input.
