The MCD 16 is dCS' first 16-channel digital-to-analog converter that reflects the company's vision of what high-quality sound can be with uncompromising multichannel capability.
The dCS MCD 16 features 16 channels of high-performance digital-to-analog conversion using eight separate Ring DAC circuits. The Ring DAC is the foundation of every dCS device, chosen for its exceptional distortion and noise characteristics. Reduced harmonic distortion across the entire dynamic range means that quiet musical passages or dialogues are reproduced with complete integrity. It also means that louder sounds decay naturally: reverberation tails, decaying resonance of a struck chord, gradual fading in a room - all are reproduced clearly, creating a sense of space and depth throughout the entire dynamic range, not just in the quietest moments.
A discrete Class A output stage per channel with switchable outputs of 2V or 6V ensures that the signal exits the MCD 16 independently, regardless of the amplifier or cable it is connected to.
Eight discreet DAC boards Ring DAC provide 16 channels of high-resolution sound with vanishingly low distortion levels, an ultra-wide bandwidth, and low noise levels.
Instant channel status viewing speeds up setup and troubleshooting with clear display of channel lock and activity indication on the front panel and in a web browser.
Class A output stages on each channel easily drive any amplifier, from rack-mounted multi-channel amplifiers to complex-controlled monoblocks.
Rack or shelf mountable for long-term stability, with managed cooling, status monitoring, and support for firmware updates.
Seamless system integration with IP control support, all system settings accessible via a web browser, control via RS232 protocol, and 12V trigger input-output.
After working on the Varèse sound system, this was another one of those rare projects where you feel like you are truly exploring new territories, bringing dCS' uncompromising performance to multichannel audio. Matt Taylor, dCS Product Manager.
For dCS, this is a particularly important step as the High End market is gradually moving beyond classic stereo. Immersive sound is increasingly used not only in home theaters but also in music recordings, concert releases, and premium multi-room installations. The company emphasizes that the MCD 16 was created not as an AV processor or a universal theater hub, but specifically as a specialized DAC where each channel must have equally high conversion quality.
