dCS

dCS was founded in 1987 in Cambridge by a group of electronic engineers who began designing and manufacturing professional A/D and D/A conversion systems for major telecommunications companies and the military. One of the company's first major projects, after winning a tender, was a high-precision guidance and tracking system for Royal Navy aircraft. This was followed by a number of professional products and systems for recording studios.

dCS were the first in the world to use the "upsampling" algorithm for digital-to-analog conversion in the early 90's. This was followed by the world's first 24bit/96Khz digital-to-analog and analog-to-digital converter. This was followed shortly by a 24bit/192Khz converter, and then the world's first analog and digital to DSD converter. In the early 90s, dCS, together with Sony and Philips, was at the origins of the new disc format – Super Audio CD (SACD) and was engaged in the development of software for this product.

One of the company's key products is a patented discrete DAC circuit with its own software – the so-called 5-bit ring DAC (Ring DAC). It uses all the best from multi-bit and single-bit DACs, while having a number of significant advantages and can work with a huge data flow. The operating algorithm is quite complex and also differs greatly from the classic digital-to-analog conversion circuits used today in audio equipment.
