The album is the fruit of a rare collaboration between the musician and a group of talented multi-instrumentalists assembled during a period of forced downtime. In the quiet of the English countryside, far from the hustle and bustle of touring and traveling, a unique musical alchemy was born – a blend of ancient spirituals, blues, contemporary folk, and his own reimagining of Americana.
In creating Saving Grace, Robert Plant, along with vocalist Susie Dayan, drummer Oli Jefferson, guitarist Tony Kelsey, string and banjo virtuoso Matt Worley, and cellist Barney Morse-Brown, transformed the creative process into a veritable workshop of styles. Over the past six years, the band has developed its own dynamic sound, in which each individual reveals themselves in precise and delicate harmony with the others. This record is more than just a collection of reworked traditional songs; it is a living organism, built on respect for musical roots while simultaneously embracing the courage to experiment.
Recorded between 2019 and 2025 on the border of the Cotswolds and Wales, the album serves as a bridge between eras. Plant once again demonstrates his passion for unearthing musical treasures, including compositions first performed by Memphis Minnie, Blind Willie Johnson, and Bob Mosley, as well as contemporary artists like Low Anthem, Mimi Parker, and Sarah Siskind. Each song is transformed into a new sonic story—deep, earthy, imbued with an atmosphere of travel, loneliness, hope, and quiet inner strength.
The release of the album coincides with the announcement of a major North American tour by Saving Grace—the first in the project's history. Concerts will take place in legendary venues in New York, Chicago, Los Angeles, and other cities. For Plant's fans, this release is further convincing proof that his creative journey is far from over: he continues to explore new horizons while remaining true to the spirit of pristine, pure music.
