Pro-Ject E1.2 Phono is an entry-level turntable with fully manual control designed for listeners looking for a simple way to start listening to vinyl.
Over the past decade, vinyl has experienced a phenomenal resurgence from an outdated format to one of the coolest ways to enjoy music. However, many have not yet transitioned to vinyl because they don't want to spend a lot of money on a new turntable or fear that setup will be too complicated. Pro-Ject E1.2 Phono is inspired by the design of the very first Pro-Ject 1 model released in 1991—an accessible and easy-to-use audiophile-level turntable.
Pro-Ject E1.2 Phono is designed in the spirit of the original Pro-Ject 1. It is a simple and reliable vinyl record player, but unlike many popular entry-level models with a long list of features, the E1.2 Phono goes back to basics—no Bluetooth, USB, or automatic shutdown. Built with technologies used in higher-class Pro-Ject turntables, it offers maximum sound quality and performance for its price, focusing on essential features.
Despite its modest cost, E1.2 Phono remains a turntable fully assembled by hand in Europe. The built-in phono stage allows you to connect the turntable directly to devices without a phono stage onboard (integrated amplifier/receiver or active speakers). For those looking for a higher-quality external phono stage, there is a choice available in the Design Box series.
Features:
Built-in phono stage: E1.2 Phono comes equipped with a switchable high-quality phono preamp, allowing direct connection to any line/CD input.
Platter: The 730g aluminum platter features a TPE damping ring for stable rotation with improved resonance and vibration characteristics. The sub-platter, made of fiberglass-reinforced ABS plastic, rotates with increased speed accuracy and reduced resonance.
Tonearm with pre-installed cartridge: The tonearm features a massive gimbal bearing for smooth movement, reinforced with carbon fiber for added rigidity. It includes the new lightweight Pick it MM E cartridge with a conical diamond stylus, pre-adjusted and factory-installed.
The phono stage is one of the most crucial parts in terms of sound reproduction and acoustic quality of a turntable. In the Pick it MM E, a low-mass system is implemented using a miniature neodymium magnet generator, enhancing tracking accuracy through reduced inertia.
The conical diamond stylus delivers warm and smooth high-quality sound reproduction with low background noise. The ABS plastic body with high damping effectively reduces coloration caused by vibration to the point of total elimination.
The base of the E1.2 Phono is made from hollow-free composite fiber on a CNC machine and is available in glossy black, satin white, or walnut finishes. Damping feet are included for vibration isolation.
