The LS1c is the flagship of our LS1 active loudspeaker series. It is named after the revolutionary TPCD Carbon Composite tweeter that we developed in cooperation with driver manufacturer Seas. Even more important is that we rebuilt all elements of the LS1 design from the ground up: the electronics with latest generation amplifiers, the audio DSP code, the computer aided calibration method, the firmware and the PC/Mac software that controls the entire system. To pick just one example, with the knowledge we gained from developing the MU1 and MU2 FPGA Pure Nyquist filters, we were able to dramatically improve the crossover phase correction filters of the LS1c’s DSP.
As result, the LS1c offers an incredible level of integration over the full frequency band – a loudspeaker has never sounded so much ‘as one’. Its rendering of the stereo image appears more tactile than ever, its capability for microdynamics exposes unheard details and its extraordinary phase coherency reveals the subtlest rhythmic structures. At the same time the natural, non-fatiguing sound of the LS1c invites one to long listening sessions.

At the low end of the frequency spectrum, the elegant Digital Motional Feedback SB1 subwoofer offers unparalleled bass. Our unique motion feedback technology lowers the distortion by 30 dB and places the resonance frequency below 20 Hz. Bass has never sounded so detailed and controlled.
A natural companion for the LS1c is the MU1 music player that allows control of all loudspeaker parameters. But an LS1c is equally happy when combined with the LS1r controller and the LS1i USB interface. The cabinet can be ordered in a stylish ‘Hi-Macs’ synthetic stone finish, or in our traditional bamboo veneer or lacquer look.
On the backside of one leg of each speaker reside, from the top, Analog In (XLR), Digital in (AES), Control In, Control Out, and Sub Out. Those Control ins, outs, and the included Cat 5 cables are proprietary Grimm tech using the built-tough Neutrik Ethercon connectors that cover the RJ45 plug with a ‘robust’ metal shell. These connections combine data transmission of AES/EBU digital audio, control data, as well as a power supply voltage over the Cat 5 cable. Control Out is used to connect the main speaker, made so by using its Control In from an external source, to the other LS1c’s Control In. A small toggle switch sets each speaker to Right or Left and sits just above the IEC inlet and power switch.
In addition to the new tweeter, the LS1c has been completely modernized. The electronics have been redesigned and are now equipped with the latest generation of Hypex NCore Class-D amplifiers, enabling even more efficient and powerful driving of the speaker units. The firmware has been rebuilt from the ground up, resulting in improved stability and the ability to implement future updates. A new feature is the preparation for a remote-controlled standby mode, something that was not available with the LS1be. These upgrades make the LS1c not only technically more advanced but also future-proof.
The LS1c retains Grimm Audio’s core philosophy: an integrated system where DSP, DA converters, amplifiers, and speakers are perfectly tuned to each other. The frequency response is optimized during production through a Computer-Aided Calibration process, resulting in an extremely linear reproduction. Like the LS1be, the LS1c can be paired with the SB1 subwoofer for powerful and transparent bass reproduction down to 20 Hz, but benefits from the latest DSP and equalizer settings that can also be updated for older LS1 customers free of charge.
In terms of appearance, the LS1c offers the same stylish options as the LS1be, such as the Hi-Macs artificial stone finish or the classic bamboo veneer look. However, the internal design has been refined with a visually appealing copper-shielded structure. In short, the LS1c distinguishes itself from the LS1be through its innovative TPCD tweeter, improved electronics, new firmware, and additional functionalities, all while elevating the legendary sound quality and aesthetics of Grimm Audio to new heights. This makes the LS1c a worthy successor and a state-of-the-art choice for those seeking the best in audio.
