The Genelec G Three active loudspeaker occupies the second position in the G Series lineup, which Genelec specifically created for home theater and stereo system applications.
The loudspeaker inherits the core features and sonic character of the company's proprietary studio monitors. Its compact cabinet is crafted from aluminum and features a smoothly contoured design utilizing the Minimum Diffraction Enclosure (MDE) technology. Thanks to MDE, the developers succeeded in significantly improving the speaker's anti-diffraction properties and reducing distortions to an absolute minimum. The included Iso-Pod stand allows the speaker to be positioned either horizontally or vertically, while also enabling users to adjust its acoustic axis. The rear part of the enclosure houses a bass reflex port, with a shape engineered to suppress vortex turbulence and minimize the noise generated by exiting airflow.
A 5-inch mid-woofer is mounted on the lower section of the front baffle, protected by a circular metal grille. Positioned above it is a 3/4-inch metal dome tweeter. The tweeter is also protected by a mesh grille and is nested within a Directivity Control Waveguide (DCW), which is meticulously calculated to precisely correct and widen the high-frequency dispersion pattern. The enclosure houses a separate 40 W power amplifier for each individual driver. The active crossover frequency is set at 3 kHz. A highly reliable overload protection circuit is also integrated.
When power is supplied, an LED indicator lights up on the speaker's front panel. The power switch is located on the rear side of the cabinet. The rear panel also hosts two inputs - an RCA and a balanced XLR - positioned next to the AC mains socket. The active monitor can be tuned to match the acoustic characteristics of any specific room. For this purpose, the developers equipped the model with a set of DIP switches, which include stepped bass tone controls (-2, -4, -6 dB), a treble control (-2 dB), a toggle that increases the sensitivity level by 10 dB, and a switch to turn off the front-facing LED indicator. Additionally, a Low Bass setting (-4 dB) is available to attenuate excessive bass accumulation in the lowest frequencies. A Tabletop DIP control is also provided, designed to mitigate the bass-boosting effect when placing the speaker on a desk or table surface.
The Genelec G Three loudspeaker is characterized by the precise, neutral sound typical of nearfield monitors. These compact speakers are capable of constructing a fully realized, three-dimensional soundstage with accurate imaging in space. The bass reproduction is well-defined and remarkably deep.
