The active loudspeaker Genelec G Three ranks second in the G series, which Genelec created specifically for home theater or stereo systems.
The acoustics inherited the main features and sound character of the brand's studio monitors. Its compact cabinet is made of aluminum and features a smoothly shaped design that utilizes the Minimum Diffraction Enclosure (MDE) technology. Thanks to MDE, the developers managed to significantly improve the speaker's anti-diffraction properties and minimize distortion. The Iso-Pod stand allows for horizontal placement of the acoustics and enables adjusting its directivity. The rear part of the enclosure houses a bass-reflex port, shaped to mitigate vortices and reduce noise created by the exiting air.
A 5-inch midrange/woofer, protected by a round metal grille, is installed at the bottom of the front panel. Positioned above is a 3/4-inch metal dome tweeter. The tweeter also features grille protection and is embedded in the Directivity Control Waveguide (DCW), which is designed to precisely correct and widen the high-frequency driver's dispersion pattern. Each driver in the speaker cabinet has its own 40W amplifier. The active crossover frequency is 3 kHz. There is a reliable overload protection circuit.
An LED indicator lights up on the front panel when power is supplied. The power switch is located on the rear of the cabinet. The rear panel also hosts two inputs—RCA and balanced XLR - along with the mains power cord socket. The active monitor can be adjusted to match the acoustic properties of a specific room. For this purpose, the developers equipped the model with a set of DIP switches, including stepped LF (-2, -4, -6 dB) and HF (-2 dB) tone controls, a toggle that increases the volume level by 10 dB, and a switch for the front-panel LED indicator. There is a Low Bass setting (-4 dB) that reduces excessive bass boost in the lower LF region. A Tabletop DIP control is also provided to mitigate the bass dominance effect when placing the speaker on a desk.
The Genelec G Three acoustics deliver the precise, neutral sound characteristic of near-field monitors. These compact speakers are capable of soundstaging a complete three-dimensional image with proper spatial instrument placement. The bass in their performance is well-defined and sufficiently deep.
