Description

The Genelec 8020D is an active portable two-way nearfield monitor designed for use in small stationary and mobile studios, for monitoring streaming broadcasts, and in post-production studios. It can also be used as a personal monitoring system. Setting it apart from previous models, it offers higher SPL and lower power consumption.

Features:

  • Bi-amp setup with Class D amplifiers
  • Peak SPL per pair >= 107 dB
  • 4" woofer and 0.75" tweeter with metal dome
  • Bass and treble attenuators and filters with DIP switches
  • Protection against radio frequency interference, overheating, and power-up/power-down thumps
  • Cast aluminum cabinet
  • Magnetic shielding
  • Available in grey or white

The monitor features a range of modern proprietary technologies. For instance, the Minimum Diffraction Enclosure (MDE) consists of a specially shaped cast aluminum cabinet, making the monitor weigh comparably to competitors made of MDF and composite materials. Another technology, Directivity Control Waveguide (DCW), adjusts the waveguide configuration to the amplifiers. Finally, the unique design of the Iso-Pod stand is engineered to reduce vibrations and deliver maximum clarity in sound.

Key features of the Genelec 8020D monitor include a bi-amp setup, with separate amplification for low, mid, and high frequencies. The enclosure also houses an active crossover with a 3 kHz frequency split. The total power of the amplifiers amounts to 100 watts (50+50). The only input on the XLR connector is located on the rear panel, along with DIP switches for built-in bass/treble attenuators and filters. There is also a standby mode with a switch: Intelligent Signal Sensing (ISS) technology helps detect signals and instantly power on the device, consuming less than 0.5 watts of energy when in standby.

The cabinet of the Genelec 8020D contains a 4" woofer with a cone and a 0.75" tweeter with a metal dome. Together, they ensure a flat frequency response and wide sound dispersion. The drivers have neodymium magnets to minimize interference with surrounding equipment and provide protection against overheating. A round bass reflex port on the rear panel of the speaker enhances the lower frequency range. The cabinet features magnetic shielding to prevent negative signal interference and is available in grey or white colors.
