The VHD+ Pre module is an extremely versatile device for recording and processing audio. It provides ultra-clean recording via SSL SuperAnalogueTM protocol, and also supports switchable VHD mode. SSL's patented Variable Harmonic Drive (VHD) system uses a 100% analog signal transmission channel to create strong harmonic distortions.
Increase the VHD input gain, and the variable harmonic control process will introduce either 2nd or 3rd harmonic distortions, or a combination of them, into the original material. At lower gain settings, it adds a soft warmth in the style of a valve or a hint of transistor sound. As the gain coefficient is increased, the distortions become sharper, until at high gain settings a fierce transistor grunge is achieved.
