Softears Twilight - A Focused Approach to Musical Detail

Twilight gives the entire musical spectrum to a single carefully matched dynamic driver. Built for listeners who appreciate expressive vocals, instrumental texture and a cohesive presentation, these wired in-ear monitors combine a purpose-developed acoustic system with an unusually lightweight metal housing. Their distinctive twisted profile continues the design language introduced by Softears Turii, while revised materials and internal construction give Twilight an identity of its own.
A Purpose-Developed 10mm Dynamic Driver

At the centre of each earpiece is a 10mm dynamic driver featuring a diamond-like carbon dome and a FreeEdge polyurethane suspension. The rigid central dome and flexible surrounding material perform complementary roles: the dome maintains its shape during movement, while the suspension allows the diaphragm to travel in a controlled manner. A Daikoku voice coil made with 0.035mm wire completes the assembly.
Softears reports approximately 2,000 hours of development for this driver platform, with the units individually produced and matched into pairs. The single-driver configuration reproduces bass, midrange and treble without dividing the signal between different types of transducer, supporting a continuous tonal character throughout the music.
Acoustic Chambers Designed Around the Driver

Twilight carries forward the patented front-cavity coupling approach developed for Turii. Its rear chamber is sized to complement the driver, helping regulate the acoustic load behind the diaphragm and supporting low-frequency response. Softears refined this relationship through repeated calculations and experiments, treating the driver and its surrounding air volume as one acoustic system.
Inside the rear chamber, viscoelastic damping materials and diffuser patches help suppress unwanted resonance. Their purpose is to reduce the contribution of the enclosure itself, allowing quieter details and instrumental textures to remain easier to distinguish. This attention to internal acoustics supports bass definition and dynamic expression without relying on multiple drivers or electronic sound processing.
Sculpted Aluminium with a Lightweight Feel

The angular silhouette hides a remarkably light aluminium structure. Each housing is machined from aviation-grade aluminium alloy using five-axis CNC equipment, then anodised to finish and protect the surface. The resulting construction combines a distinctive geometric appearance with a weight of approximately 6g per earpiece.
Twilight’s twisted shape is an integral part of its design rather than a decorative faceplate treatment. The slim housing and angled nozzle allow the earpieces to be positioned with a slight rotation, while the cable routes over the ears. A selection of ear-tip sizes helps listeners find the seal and placement that suit their ears.
A Choice of Ear Tips for a Personal Fit

Three ear-tip families are supplied in small, medium and large sizes. Standard silicone tips provide a familiar fit, foam tips offer an alternative feel, and Softears Ultra Clear tips use a soft, transparent material designed to conform comfortably to the ear canal.
Choosing the right tips is particularly useful with Twilight: the seal affects both bass reproduction and how securely the earpieces sit. The included selection makes it possible to experiment with fit before considering additional accessories. Its vented acoustic construction also means that passive isolation will depend on placement and should not be confused with active noise cancellation.
Detachable Cable with Balanced and Single-Ended Connectivity

The supplied 1.2m cable uses four conductors of high-purity 6N oxygen-free copper. Standard 0.78mm two-pin connections make it detachable, allowing replacement when needed. Softears also specifies thick gold plating on the connector pins to support corrosion resistance and reliable electrical contact.
A 4.4mm balanced plug connects directly to compatible players and headphone amplifiers. For conventional headphone outputs, the included adapter connects the cable to a 3.5mm single-ended socket. This arrangement lets Twilight work with different listening systems while retaining the same cable.
Technical Specifications

Twilight has a nominal impedance of 16Ω and a sensitivity of 116dB/Vrms at 1kHz. Its stated frequency range is 15Hz–40kHz, measured using a quarter-inch free-field microphone at −3dB. The effective frequency response is specified separately as 20Hz–20kHz under IEC 60318-4 measurement conditions, with total harmonic distortion below 1% at 1kHz.
As a passive wired design, Twilight requires no charging. It can be connected to a compatible headphone output, portable DAC or digital audio player through its supplied balanced cable and single-ended adapter.
