Wait, was that sound from my room... or was it a recording? Sometimes it's hard to tell without a certain level of precision. No, we're not trying to confuse you. But this is one way the HD 505 can surprise you, especially if you're new to high-quality audio. Everything seems more real, you're right in the thick of things, without investing in expensive gear.

    HD 505

Do you remember your favorite songs note by note? Maybe you're afraid you'll be dragged to a karaoke bar? But even in that case, there might be details you haven't heard yet. Imagine hearing the sound of a piano returning to its original position; the quiet hum of a tube amplifier; the saxophonist taking a breath; the synthesizer line hidden deep in the mix. The HD 505 opens up a whole new world of fine details like these. And it works for everything: music, movies, and games! Professionals sometimes call this "high resolution" or "analytical" sound.

The optimized 120-ohm driver delivers clean mids and highs.

The optimized 120-ohm driver, manufactured at Sennheiser's own factory in Ireland, delivers clean mids and highs.

The driver is the heart of the headphones. It includes a magnet and a diaphragm that vibrate to create sound. Engineers tilted it forward and integrated it into the open-back cup to create a soundstage where it seems like the sound is coming from a specific place in front of you (or behind you). Close your eyes and imagine yourself on stage: the saxophonist slightly left of center, the piano slightly right, the guitar amp behind the saxophone.

The impressive frequency range of the HD 505 covers sounds that you feel more than hear (below 20 Hz) as well as the high frequencies typical of string instruments (above 20 kHz). And of course, Sennheiser has fine-tuned the acoustics to eliminate gaps and achieve maximum detail. For example, finely tuned damping behind the driver ensures a smooth bass response - always superior, without being overpowering.

    Comfort at a new level

    Comfort at a new level

The refined color accents of the HD 505 make a great first impression. But the HD 505 is more than just striking sound. These headphones, based on the HD 500 housing, weigh 237g. They are so lightweight and comfortable that you won't even notice them snug on your head. The reduced weight also helps reduce clamping force, making these headphones even safer for your head. The synthetic leather headband and velour ear cushions give it a special atmosphere.

    Durability and replaceable parts

    Durability and replaceable parts

Some people treat headphones a little strangely. Like a child treats a favorite blanket. Sennheiser understands this! That's why they are designed for long-term use. Many people still use Sennheiser headphones from the 1960s. After all, reliable product design is a hallmark of German engineering thought. The HD 505 is no different: less plastic, more luxury. For example, the high-quality metal mesh ear cushions really set the tone. Accessories from the HD 500 series, including all cables, are compatible. And you will have access to these items, as well as spare parts like ear cushions, for many years.

Close to Harman Curve Frequency Response

Close to Harman Curve Frequency Response

Headphone frequency response graphs look nothing like the ideally linear speaker graphs. Here you can see a large rise on the right (high frequency) side, followed by a sharp drop. But this is actually very close to what is considered ideal for headphones. This is called the Harman curve. This industry test is based on extensive psychoacoustic research on listener preferences.

    HD 505

For example, it turns out that headphones counteract the function of the outer ear, which otherwise amplifies sounds in the 3 kHz range. Therefore, the ideal response for headphones is much higher there. Resonances in the inner ear also amplify sounds in the 7 to 10 kHz range, causing the graph to sharply drop around 8-9 kHz. Here we see that the HD 505 improves on the already excellent features of the HD 599, expanding the low-frequency range even further, while maintaining strong, analytical mid-frequencies and excellent high frequencies without hissing or sharpness.
