The Pro-Ject RPM 5 Carbon turntable, which replaced the RPM 5.1 model, occupies a middle position in the company's RPM line of record players.
The turntable comes equipped with a 9-inch Pro-Ject 9cc Evolution tonearm with a conical carbon tube that forms a single unit with the shell and effectively resists resonances. The counterweight has reliable damping thanks to the use of thermoplastic elastomer (TPE). Height adjustment is available, as well as VTA and azimuth angle adjustment (by rotating the tonearm tube, which is secured with a single bolt).
The turntable's vibration-resistant and resonance-resistant chassis includes a new inverted bearing with a stainless steel shaft and a ceramic ball. This provides the required smoothness of movement and reduces the level of mechanical noise. The table of the model has a droplet shape and is equipped with three adjustable conical feet made of aluminum designed to decouple it from the support surface. A flat mini stand is placed under each foot. The upper part of the table has a stylish glossy finish, under which there is a carbon fiber coating.
The acoustically inert 300mm acrylic platter is driven by a belt on a pulley completely decoupled from the synchronous electric motor housing. The high-precision motor operates smoothly and uses an AC generator. It is powered by a separate power adapter block, resulting in a more stable disc rotation speed. Speeds of 33.3 and 45 RPM are supported, and switching between them is done manually by moving the belt from one pulley to the other.
