The Mackie CR4.5 is a multimedia monitor set that is part of the third generation of the popular CR (Creative Reference) series.
The name of the line suggests that the speakers are suitable not only for home listening to music, watching movies and playing video games, but also for various creative activities. For example, creating music, monitoring during recording or playing musical instruments, as well as pre-mixing music compositions. This version of CR3.5 is suitable for small to medium-sized rooms.
The monitors are equipped with 4.5-inch woven woofers and 1-inch silk dome tweeters. The tweeters are protected by metal grilles. These drivers cover a frequency range from 55Hz to 20kHz with a -3 dB level, and the crossover frequency is set at 3kHz. The Class D amplifier provides a total maximum power of 50W. It is built into one of the speakers, while the other one is passive. Connection between them is done with the included speaker cable. The maximum sound pressure level is capable of reaching 100 dB.
To adjust the sound, there is a Tone knob on the front panel. In the far left position, it provides the most linear sound, while in the far right position it boosts the low and high frequencies. This allows you to switch from "dry" monitor sound to bright and vibrant sound for music, movies, and games. On the back panel, there is a Desktop/Bookshelf switch that determines the sound direction. The Bookshelf mode is designed for a more distant placement from the listener, while the Desktop mode is for closer placement. There is also an L/R switch to change the speaker positions.
For connecting audio sources, there are balanced inputs on 1/4'' Jack TRS connectors, as well as unbalanced inputs on RCA and 1/8'' Jack TRS connectors. Finally, there is a headphone output on a 1/8'' Jack TRS connector.
The enclosure is made of durable MDF with a vinyl coating and features a rear-firing port tube, which serves to extend the low-frequency boundary of the range. Power is supplied from the mains. The package includes 1/8'' Jack TRS to 2RCA and 1/8'' Jack TRS to 1/8'' Jack TRS cables, as well as vibration-isolating feet for each speaker. To enhance the low-frequency range, you can separately purchase the Mackie CR8S active subwoofer.
