The Mackie CR3.5 is a set of multimedia monitors included in the third generation of the popular CR (Creative Reference) series.
The name of the lineup suggests that the speakers are suitable not only for home listening to music, watching movies, and playing video games but also for various creative activities such as music production, monitoring during recording or playing musical instruments, as well as pre-mixing musical compositions. This version of CR3.5 is well-suited for small to medium-sized rooms.
The monitors are equipped with 3.5-inch woven woofers and 1-inch silk dome tweeters. The tweeters are protected by metal grilles. These drivers produce frequencies ranging from 70 Hz to 20 kHz at -3 dB, with a crossover frequency set at 3 kHz. The Class D amplifier provides a total maximum power of 50 watts, built into one speaker while the other is passive. The connection between them is made with the included speaker cable. The maximum sound pressure level can reach 100 dB.
To adjust the sound, there is a Tone knob on the front panel. When set to the far left, it provides the most linear sound, while setting to the far right amplifies low and high frequencies. This allows switching from a "dry" monitor sound to a bright and rich sound for music, movies, and games. On the back, there is a Desktop/Bookshelf switch to determine the sound direction. The Bookshelf mode is intended for placement further away from the listener, while the Desktop mode is for closer listening. There is also an L/R switch to change the speaker position.
For connecting audio sources, there are balanced inputs on 1/4'' Jack TRS connectors, as well as unbalanced inputs on RCA and 1/8'' Jack TRS connectors. Finally, there is a headphone output on a 1/8'' Jack TRS connector.
The sturdy MDF housing with vinyl coating and a rear port tube for low-frequency extension. It is powered by electricity. The package includes 1/8'' Jack TRS to 2RCA and 1/8'' Jack TRS to 1/8'' Jack TRS cables, as well as vibration-isolating pads for each speaker. An optional Mackie CR8S active subwoofer can be purchased to enhance the bass range.
