The Mackie CR3.5 is a multimedia monitor set that is part of the third generation of the popular CR series (Creative Reference).
The name of the line suggests that this speaker set is not only suitable for casual music listening, movie watching, and gaming, but also for various creative activities such as music production, monitoring during recording, or playing musical instruments, as well as preliminary mixing of musical compositions. This version of CR3.5 is well suited for small and medium-sized rooms.
The monitors are equipped with 3.5-inch woven woofers and 1-inch silk dome tweeters. The tweeters are protected by metal grilles. These speakers cover a frequency range from 70 Hz to 20 kHz at -3 dB, with a crossover frequency set at 3 kHz. The Class D amplifier provides a total maximum power of 50 watts. It is built into one speaker, while the other is passive. They are connected by the included speaker cable. The maximum sound pressure level can reach 100 dB.
To adjust the sound, there is a Tone knob on the front panel. In the far left position, it provides the most linear sound, while in the far right, it boosts the low and high frequencies. This allows you to switch from a "dry" monitor sound to a bright and rich sound for music, movies, and games. There is a Desktop/Bookshelf switch on the back panel to determine the sound direction - Bookshelf mode for distant placement and Desktop mode for close listening. There is also an L/R switch to change the speaker position.
For audio sources, there are balanced inputs on 1/4'' Jack TRS connectors, as well as unbalanced inputs on RCA and 1/8'' Jack TRS connectors. Finally, there is a headphone output on a 1/8'' Jack TRS connector.
The cabinet is made of durable MDF with a vinyl coating and features a rear-firing port tube to extend the low-frequency range. The power is supplied from the mains. The package includes 1/8'' Jack TRS to 2RCA and 1/8'' Jack TRS to 1/8'' Jack TRS cables, as well as vibration-isolating feet for each speaker. An optional Mackie CR8S active subwoofer can be purchased separately to enhance the low-frequency range.
