With 5.1.2-channel playback, the soundbar allows you to position sound in three-dimensional space, including overhead effects, without the need for external speakers. The device's housing accommodates drivers configured to deliver full-range sound without additional speakers, although an additional subwoofer can be added if needed. Connection options include HDMI eARC, optical input, and RCA output for subwoofer. Wireless connectivity is achieved through KEF's W2 platform, supporting streaming.
Uni-Q MXM Technology
The KEF XIO soundbar is equipped with six Uni-Q MX drivers, a compact version of KEF's well-established UniQ array designed for even sound distribution throughout the room. The low-frequency output is handled by a pair of P185 LF drivers using P-Flex suspensions arranged in a force-canceling configuration to reduce vibrations and housing distortions.
Deep Excursion with P-Flex System
The P-Flex system, adapted from KEF's KC62 and KC92 subwoofers, provides greater driver excursion under pressure, contributing to deeper bass extension. KEF's VECO (Velocity Control Technology) is used for controlling the motion of the driver and applying corrective feedback to reduce distortions. The soundbar includes Intelligent Placement Technology (IPT), a calibration function that adjusts output based on room surroundings and positioning. Pre-set modes are available, including a dialogue mode that enhances vocal clarity and others for nighttime use and music playback.
Dual Device Placement Options
When placed on a stand to create upward-firing Atmos channels, the soundbar will only use two drivers, but when wall-mounted, the "top" will face the user, and the third driver will become the center channel. KEF claims that the panel knows how it is positioned and will adjust the driver output accordingly. These drivers are paired with two pairs of P185 LF bass drivers arranged back to back in two positions along the panel. These ultra-thin, high aspect ratio woofers use KEF's P-Flex technology, also used in the compact subwoofers KC62 and KC92, to create force-canceling, reducing mechanical vibrations caused by low frequencies in such a small enclosure.
Minimal Distortion
A part of KEF's technology involved here is the patented Velocity Control Technology sensor, which, according to Okli-Brown, has finally emerged from the R&D phase after "six or seven years." It works alongside digital distortion correction and is built into the subwoofer for physical control of its motion. This can then better inform the electronics about what is actually happening in the enclosure and help further minimize distortion and compression.
Broad Sound Format Support
In addition to Atmos, the KEF XIO supports DTS:X and Sony 360 Reality Audio, and features an eARC HDMI port for TV connection (yes, only one - you will have to switch on the TV itself, which is somewhat unusual for this price range), optical input for other devices (please do not buy this soundbar and connect it to the TV using an optical cable - this is an outdated connection that won't unleash the full potential of Xio), subwoofer output, and Bluetooth pairing button.
Convenient Control Options
Users can control the KEF XIO Soundbar using the top panel, remote control, or the KEF Connect app. The app includes standard and advanced EQ options, allowing for manual adjustments in addition to pre-set modes. During setup through the KEF Connect app, you will also be able to connect this soundbar to your home Wi-Fi network (Ethernet is also available if you prefer). This will enable you to use your choice of Spotify, Tidal, and Qobuz Connect, GoogleCast, or Apple AirPlay 2 for high-quality music playback via Wi-Fi on the soundbar.
Exclusive App
The app is also where you can access features such as Xio calibration without clutter in the room, select sound profile (Default, Music, Movie, Night, Dialogue, and Live), set timers, and choose sources. The package includes a remote control (and a few buttons on the sound panel if you need them), but you won't find much use for it if you have the KEF Connect app handy.
Expandable subwoofer capability with an additional KW2 RX receiver which provides wireless pairing with compatible KEF subwoofers. The KEF XIO soundbar features an aluminum top plate and fabric cover. It is available in Slate Black and Silver Grey colors, with the option to mount on a shelf or wall. Despite its slim profile, the soundbar is designed to provide relatively extended bass response through internal low-frequency drivers.
Package includes:
- Subwoofer
- Remote control
- Power cable
- Manual
