There are five models in the series (all three-way): floor-standing Reference 5 Meta and Reference 3 Meta speakers, bookshelf Reference 1 Meta, as well as two center channel models, Reference 4 Meta and Reference 2, which can be used as front speakers (LCR).

The Uni-Q driver with MAT technology has been specially designed to deliver perfectly clean characteristics expected from a flagship KEF speaker system. Uni-Q ensures consistently pleasant, clear, and lyrical highs regardless of volume levels. The new midrange driver magnetic system design with ultra-low distortions reduces the Total Harmonic Distortion (THD) in the mid-frequency range and reduces thermal compression, resulting in increased efficiency.
A new feature in The Reference Meta speaker systems is the use of absorbing metamaterial effectively absorbing 99% of unwanted sound. MAT technology is truly revolutionary: thanks to the complex structure, the material exhibits properties that do not exist in naturally occurring substances.
Bass of benchmark quality. The 165mm (6.5-inch) low-frequency driver of the Reference model complements the new 12th-generation Uni-Q driver array perfectly. Meticulous engineering and attention to detail allow the bass to blend seamlessly with impeccable mid and high frequencies.
The Reference woofer also benefits from a massive magnetic system, a large aluminum voice coil, and a very light yet rigid aluminum diaphragm. As a result of all these technologies, an excellent sound volume, dynamics, and power are achieved.
The Reference speakers are versatile in terms of placement and easily adapt to your listening area using KEF's innovative Flexible Port Technology, which can reduce resonances inside the port. Two port options are included, allowing users to adjust the sound according to room dimensions. In addition, the flare and shape of each port have been calculated using computational fluid dynamics to avoid turbulence and noise that can color the sound.
All The Reference series cabinets are designed using Finite Element Analysis to determine the ideal shape and placement of braces to minimize secondary radiation from the side walls. Constrained Layer Damping is applied to convert any remaining vibration into heat.
