The Uni-Q driver with MAT technology is specially designed to achieve perfectly clean characteristics expected from KEF's flagship speakers. Uni-Q delivers consistently pleasant, clear, and lyrical high frequencies regardless of the volume level. The new construction of the midrange driver's magnetic system with ultra-low distortion reduces the Total Harmonic Distortion (THD) in the mid-frequency range and decreases thermal compression, resulting in increased efficiency.
A new feature in The Reference Meta speaker design is the use of absorptive metamaterial, which effectively absorbs 99% of unwanted sounds. MAT technology is truly revolutionary: thanks to its complex structure, the material used exhibits properties that do not exist in natural substances.
The bass is of reference quality. The 165mm (6.5-inch) low-frequency driver of the Reference model perfectly complements the new array of 12th generation Uni-Q drivers. Meticulous engineering and attention to detail allow the bass to seamlessly blend with flawless midrange and high frequencies.
The Reference woofer also benefits from a massive magnetic system, a large aluminum voice coil, and a very lightweight yet rigid aluminum diaphragm. All of these technologies result in outstanding sound volume, dynamics, and power.
Reference speakers are versatile in placement and easily adapt to your listening area with KEF's innovative Flexible Port Technology, capable of reducing resonances inside the port. Two port options are included, allowing users to adjust the sound according to room size. In addition, the flare and shape of each port have been calculated using computational hydrodynamics to avoid turbulence and noise that could color the sound.
All cabinets in The Reference series are designed using finite element analysis to determine the ideal shape and position of bracing to minimize secondary radiation from side panels. Constrained Layer Damping is applied to convert any remaining vibration into heat.
