KEF The Reference Meta is an updated series of speakers with an extremely powerful array of 12th generation Uni-Q drivers, now featuring Absorbing Metamaterial Technology (MAT).

In the series there are five models (all 3-way): floorstanding speakers Reference 5 Meta and Reference 3 Meta, bookshelf Reference 1 Meta, as well as two center channel models, Reference 4 Meta and Reference 2, which can be used as front speakers (LCR).

The Uni-Q driver with MAT technology was specially designed to achieve perfectly clean characteristics expected from a flagship KEF speaker system. Uni-Q provides consistently pleasant, clear, and lyrical high frequencies regardless of volume level. The new design of the midrange driver's magnetic system with ultra-low distortion reduces Total Harmonic Distortion (THD) in the midrange and reduces thermal compression, resulting in increased efficiency.
A new feature in The Reference Meta speaker design is the use of Metamaterial Absorption, effectively absorbing 99% of unwanted sounds. MAT technology is revolutionary - thanks to the complex material structure, it exhibits properties not found in natural substances.
Benchmark bass quality. The 6.5-inch low-frequency driver of the Reference model perfectly complements the new array of 12th generation Uni-Q drivers. Careful engineering and attention to detail allow the bass to seamlessly blend with flawless midrange and high frequencies.
The Reference woofer also benefits from a massive magnetic system, a large aluminum voice coil, and a very light yet rigid aluminum cone. As a result of all these technologies, we get excellent sound volume, dynamics, and power.
The Reference speakers are versatile in terms of placement and easily adapt to your listening area with KEF's innovative Flexible Port Technology (adjustable ported phase inverter), which can reduce resonances inside the port. The package includes two options of phase inverter ports, allowing users to adjust the sound according to room size. Additionally, the flare and shape of each port were calculated using computational hydrodynamics to avoid turbulence and noise that can color the sound.
All cabinets in The Reference series are developed using finite element methods to determine the ideal shape and placement of bracing to minimize secondary radiation from the side walls. Constrained Layer Damping is used to convert any remaining vibration into heat.
