This album is one of the most ambitious in the project's history: recording took place across the globe, from London's legendary Studio 13 to Mumbai, New Delhi, Rajasthan, and Varanasi, as well as in Ashgabat, Damascus, Los Angeles, Miami, and New York. This geographic diversity directly influenced the sound: the compositions intertwine Gorillaz's electronic aesthetic with elements of worldbeat, psychedelia, and Indian classical music.
The album title is written in Devanagari - "पर्वत" (Parvat), meaning "mountain." This metaphor reflects the album's concept: a musical ascent through different cultures, languages, and styles. The record features lyrics in English, Arabic, Hindi, Spanish, and Yoruba, creating a truly multilingual atmosphere.
The project features an impressive number of guest musicians, including Anoushka Shankar, Johnny Marr, Black Thought, Yasiin Bey, Idles, Omar Souleyman, and the iconic duo Sparks. Particularly significant is the participation of legendary artists whose archival recordings were used posthumously: Bobby Womack, Tony Allen, Dave "Trugoy the Dove" Jolicoeur, Mark E. Smith, Proof, and Dennis Hopper. This connects generations of musicians and becomes a unique musical chronicle of Gorillaz collaborations over the past decades.
