Solid Conductors Made of Monolithic Copper (LGC)
Solid conductors eliminate distortion caused by the interaction of multiple strands. The AudioQuest Black Lab cables use solid long-grain copper (LGC) which provides a smoother and cleaner sound compared to cables made with regular oxygen-free high-conductivity (OFHC) copper. LGC has fewer impurities, oxides, and inter-grain boundaries, resulting in significantly better performance.
Cold-Welded, Gold-Plated Terminals
The plug design allows for a solder-less connection, which is a common source of distortion. Instead of soldering, the cold-welding process utilizes high-pressure techniques.
Solid Polyethylene Insulation
Anything in contact with the conductor can impact the circuit. The insulation material and the circuit components can absorb energy, causing loss. This stored energy is released as distortion. The AudioQuest Greyhound uses air-filled foam polyethylene insulation because air absorbs without energy loss, and polyethylene has low loss and distortion characteristics. The air-filled insulation significantly reduces distortion compared to other materials.
Noise-Dissipation System with Metal Layer Shielding (NDS)
Achieving 100% shielding is simple. The Noise-Dissipation System eliminates a significant amount of radio frequency interference that could enter the equipment's grounding plane.
Coaxial Geometry
Seven negative conductors spiraling around one large positive conductor creates a cable with a larger cross-sectional area, minimizing the drawbacks of the jacket and providing low impedance.
