ZMF Verite Open
ZMF Verite Open are the flagship ZMF headphones, representing an open version of the model. Based on a beryllium-coated diaphragm and as implied by the name (the term "verite" in the film industry refers to a trend that emphasizes naturalness), it provides a true representation of music and perfectly reflects the artists' intentions.
The primary focus in creating the Open Verite was on fast and smooth sound with a three-dimensional soundstage, while with the Verite Closed, more focus was on emphasizing low frequencies and slightly fuller sound, achieved through a special closed design that guarantees the best isolation among all ZMF headphones. With maximum speed, accuracy, and an extended dynamic range, Verite will immerse the listener completely. Creating a natural concert hall atmosphere while maintaining the speed of the beryllium driver, Verite is exceptionally dynamic.
Special dynamic drivers for Verite
Achieving superior sound quality in the closed version of Verite is possible thanks to the use of a proprietary dynamic transducer with an N50 magnet and a beryllium-coated feathered diaphragm. The company has also prepared a special air delivery system and a new acoustic chamber for the model, enhancing sound accuracy.
ZMF's classic design with beautiful wooden casings
ZMF headphones are distinguished by handmade designs made from specially selected wood species. In ZMF Verite Closed, African Sapele wood is used, known for its medium density, which provides good transient response. This wood, with its unique texture, looks absolutely stunning. The surface is finished with vintage redwood stain for a darker appearance. Paired with additional copper grills and pins, the copper will be pre-oxidized for an aged patina.
Wood and musicality
The relationship between wood and music has been traced back to the origins of instruments. Naturally, the resonance and timbre of headphones speak to this primal auditory connection. ZMF develops headphones to utilize the properties of wood, showcasing both traditional craftsmanship and modern acoustics. ZMF headphones will stand the test of time with their modern asymmetrical design and world-class acoustic characteristics, just like instruments and antiques that gain value from generation to generation as family heirlooms.
Sound shaping
All ZMF headphones are CNC machined with strict consistency, manually sanded for detail, and finished according to project design. They are then measured using modern precision sound measurement systems to ensure audio accuracy through scientific research conducted on the Brüel & Kjær 5128 HATS device in an anechoic chamber. ZMF uses only premium-grade hardwoods dried in a kiln, which remain stable throughout their lifespan. Engineers tune all headphones to the same frequency response values for each model, regardless of wood type. You hear the full tonality of each wood type.
The earcups are cut in pairs from the same boards to ensure a match in grain, texture, visual symmetry, and density. Typically, materials are taken from adjacent parts of one board since the exotic species ZMF uses are rarely thick enough to pick from.
ZMF founder Zach selects all wood pieces used by ZMF based on their density, technological properties, and aesthetic appeal. Blocks are handpicked with consideration for grain orientation or unique character features from local lumberyards. Exotic wood species are checked remotely. After arrival in the workshop, all items undergo a quality reinspection, revealing repair needs, grain matching, and defect removal.
Following this, selected blanks are cut to size and machine processed within strict tolerances. ZMF utilizes CNC and 3D printing advancements to efficiently support small-batch manufacturing of signature wooden earcups and biodegradable low-tox plastic pads. Both earcups are CNC-machined from the same block to ensure visual symmetry and consistent density. They are then manually sanded by a master to eliminate any lingering defects, polish, and prepare the wood for finishing.
When finishing ZMF headphones, the least harsh of the available options are used. The primary material for treatment is Osmo wax for porous wood, consisting of natural seed oils and waxes. However, each set is individually matched according to the character of the Wood. The goal is to ensure that the wood's character takes precedence in the finishing of each product. Wood possesses unique qualities as a material that has lived its life before being reconstituted as ZMF headphones. Properly prepared and cared for, wooden ear cups will age with their user, ultimately telling their story alongside the owner.
Specially crafted ear pads and headband
ZMF Atrium Closed headphones feature a beautiful profile with stylish rounded edges that complement the signature headband perfectly. The headband, designed by ZMF, ensures high wearing comfort. It is made of a durable aluminum alloy and finished with genuine leather (along with the strap to comfortably hold the construction).
The company also includes two pairs of signature ear pads with each model. The special Be2 pads, offering a three-dimensional soundstage similar to Universe Pads Suede while providing a more linear and neutral sound, can be an ideal option for Verite.
