Yamaha introduces the Yamaha NS-SW300 subwoofer with a phase-inverter port made with the new “Twisted Flare Port” technology. The model has also received a whole bunch of Yamaha's proprietary technologies to be as competitive as possible in its price category. The built-in 250W amplifier is highly efficient, consuming minimal power and generating minimal heat. The absence of an output filter coil results in exceptionally low noise and distortion.

Transient performance is also excellent. Dual feedback circuit (DFC) reduces distortion by applying DFC twice, resulting in a cleaner sound. Yamaha's Advanced YST II (Yamaha Active Servo Technology II) utilizes a negative impedance and constant current mechanism for better control of the driver. Using Advanced Negative Impedance Converter (ANIC) circuitry, this system dynamically optimizes the driver impedance for better linearity.
This means more stable and accurate bass reproduction, not to mention overall sound quality. The 25cm woofer is mounted on the front panel. Rectangular wire is used as the winding in the voice coil of the driver. Due to its large surface area, this wire forms a denser winding, providing high magnetic induction. The magnetic coil develops the high load required to produce deep and clear bass.
With its monolithic shape, rounded edges on the front and side panels, the subwoofer gives you an idea of the power hidden in it, and blends well with most speakers. Several color options are available for a better match with the interior. The most commonly used controls - on/off switch and volume control - are presented on the front panel for added convenience. The control panel is beveled at a 45-degree angle, making it easy to access even when the subwoofer is placed on the floor. An indicator above the power button shows the status of the unit even in the dark.
The use of Yamaha Active Servo Technology II (YST II) is designed to cancel out another source of distortion - the varying impedance of the driver itself. A special electrical circuit dynamically creates a negative impedance to equalize the load on the amplifier and make the resulting cone movement as linear as possible.
The second version of this technology allows the cone movement to be controlled more rigidly and clearly. The driver's voice coil is wound with square wire, which gives a power gain over traditional round wire for the same amount of winding volume. For easy operation of the device, the power button, volume control and power indicator are placed on the beveled rib between the front and top walls of the case. The device is provided for automatic switching on and automatic switching off on the presence of an input signal. The standby mode is very economical - only 0.3 W.
