To this capsule, an amplifier made from military-grade VF-14 tubes (used in field and aviation radios) and BV8 output transformer was added. The combination of these components created a sound quality that was unheard of in the English-speaking world of the mid-1940s, when darker sounding and less detailed ribbon microphones were the standard. The emergence of the U-47 elevated the audio world to a new level of quality, and it is still considered one of the best microphones ever produced.
At first glance of the new U-47 from Telefunken, the "family resemblance" is easily noticeable. The new M7 capsule is installed on the large chrome radiator grille. In its matte nickel-plated body, a new BV8 output transformer and a new VF-14k vacuum tube are installed - replacing the rare VF-14M tubes that were in the original. The classic diamond "Telefunken" logo proudly adorns the front of the body. All these accessories indicate that this microphone is designed for work.
