The NTG4+ microphone is based on the popular NTG1 and NTG2 models. The microphone capsule has been enhanced, reducing self-noise from 18 to 16 dBA, while still maintaining the classic sound quality of RODE. In addition, three direct control buttons have been added to the microphone body for convenience: an attenuator (-10 dB), a low-frequency filter (75 Hz), and a unique feature not often found in microphones - a high-frequency boost. All three buttons are equipped with LED indicators, making it easy to see which one is active. The microphone also remembers the settings from the last use, so they are retained upon the next power-on.
The high-frequency boost feature is specifically designed for shotgun microphones used in dense windshields, such as the "dead cat" (RODE WS6) or the "blimp" (RODE Blimp). These windshields dampen the high frequencies, so having built-in hardware boost on the microphone saves time in post-processing.
The standout feature of the NTG4+ is its built-in lithium-ion battery. This compact battery adds only a few centimeters to the overall length of the microphone but can provide up to 150 hours of operation on a single charge (charging takes 2 hours via a Micro USB cable). The use of the built-in battery allows the NTG4+ to be used with cameras, consumer-grade camcorders, passive mixers, and other devices that do not provide phantom power. However, you are not limited to the battery power alone: if your camera has phantom power, you can use it instead of the built-in battery.
Derived from the popular and widely recognized NTG2 microphone, the NTG4+ is equipped with an entirely new condenser capsule. This capsule has low self-noise and high sensitivity. The NTG4+ features adjustable amplitude-frequency parameters through digital switches. In the RODE microphone lineup, the NTG4+ is the first microphone with a built-in battery.
