RME Fireface UFX III
The RME Fireface UFX III is a rackmount audio interface designed for professional studios. Running on a USB 3.0 bus, this interface is ideal for large projects. Users have access to four preamps, eight line inputs, optical ADAT and AES/EBU connections for external microphone preamps. The MADI protocol allows for up to 128 channels in a studio setup. Any external equipment with a MIDI interface can also be connected to the Fireface.
Features:
- USB 3.0 audio interface for professional studios.
- SteadyClock FS technology ensures no jitter.
- Minimal latency.
- Four premium-class microphone preamps.
- Optical ADAT and AES/EBU connections for external microphone preamps.
- 128 MADI channels.
- MIDI interface.
- Support for parallel submixes.
- Up to 188 channels of equalization, 188 channels of dynamic processing, reverb/delay bus, auto gain.
- Remote control through the TotalMix Remote app for Mac, PC, and iOS.
The Fireface UFX III boasts premium converters and a built-in effects chain providing 188 channels of equalization/compression and reverb/delay. Gain auto-adjustment for different types of microphones is also included.
Powerful USB 3 Interface
On the front panel of the Fireface UFX III, you'll find four high-performance combo XLR/TRS inputs for transmitting microphone, instrument, and line signals, two headphone outputs with a signal level of +19 dB, MIDI I/O, and a USB port. Combined with the DURec feature (direct USB recording), the USB port allows for independent recording of selected input and output signals (up to 80 channels) to a connected USB drive.
The rear panel provides all the connection options for the Fireface UFX III. In addition to another MIDI I/O, there are two optical ADAT I/Os, AES/EBU I/O, and eight balanced analog line outputs (including XLR outputs for stereo monitoring). With a new multi-mode feature, two ADAT I/O modules can be used as separate optical SPDIF inputs and outputs in addition to AES inputs. Furthermore, the Fireface UFX III is equipped with an optical MADI (SC) interface with 64 bidirectional channels. Word Clock (BNC) connections can be used as additional coaxial MADI inputs and outputs if needed.
Comprehensive MADI Network Connection
The Fireface UFX III offers compatibility with a variety of RME and third-party digital and analog solutions. Expanding the number of analog channels and routing/mixing digitally from multiple sources provides flexible options. Several external MIDI devices can also be daisy-chained.
For further flexibility in MADI connections, the Fireface UFX III boasts some typical features. For example, in USB 2 mode, which is limited to 30 I/O channels (12 analog plus 16 ADAT plus AES), MADI I/O is still available through the built-in TotalMix FX hardware mixer from RME. The Word Clock I/O can be switched to MADI I/O (coaxial), and a special split mode even allows for simultaneous use of both MADI I/O devices, with 32 channels in optical and coaxial modes.
USB 3-Compatible Audio System
The Fireface UFX III operates in two different modes: USB 3 driver-based and Class Compliant. Class Compliant mode is a standard initially supported by operating systems like Windows, Mac OSX, and various Linux distributions. No proprietary drivers are needed; the device is recognized directly upon loading the embedded CC software.
The Fireface UFX III is the first RME audio interface with full USB 3.0 support in class-compliant mode. This makes all channels available in driverless mode for Linux, Mac, and iPad OS. An iPad Pro with a USB C connection can handle up to 94 channels for recording and playback in TotalMix FX for iPad and at the system level.
