The controller was designed to provide direct access to the most commonly used parameters needed for everyday work in the studio. Its extremely flexible configuration through the DSP mixer will streamline the workflow and significantly increase the convenience of working with RME interfaces. The control panel is equipped with one large scroll wheel and two buttons for the Fireface UFX/UCX audio interfaces. The main scroll wheel is a large rotary knob. There are 8 auxiliary buttons for saving and recalling settings, signal levels, and 6 freely programmable keys with LED indicators. Seven buttons provide direct access to TotalMix FX to execute up to 36 different commands.
This wired RME ARC USB remote control is used for direct access to the most commonly used actions and commands in TotalMix FX, making it an indispensable tool for everyday studio work. Its extremely flexible configuration through TotalMix FX will simplify the workflow and significantly increase the usability of the RME interface in most real-life situations.
ARC USB is a USB 1.1 (UAC1) MIDI remote control panel, initially compatible with Windows and Mac OS X. Once it appears in the operating system, TotalMix FX detects it and connects to it without interfering with other remote control panels. Therefore, there is no need to turn on or off ARC USB in TotalMix FX - it will just work. Control multiple interfaces simultaneously, and since it interacts with TotalMix FX (via USB), it is compatible with all RME audio interfaces that are detected and supported by TotalMix FX. This even applies to RME interfaces released in 2001! Once ARC USB is connected to the computer, any button press or wheel turn triggers the corresponding action in TotalMix FX - and, consequently, the RME audio interface.
ARC USB can also be directly connected to the latest devices bearing the same name, equipped with an internal USB 1.1 host with a corresponding port. This connection method is convenient in standalone mode when ARC USB is supported by the UFX, 802 FS, UCX II, and MADIface XT II series.
ARC USB is powered by the bus, but consumes very little power. In addition, it uses USB 1.1 as the bus standard, which is currently not critical due to lower frequency and speed requirements. USB 2 cables from 5 to 10 meters in length and inexpensive USB 2 extenders, which usually cause bus-powered interface failures, work perfectly with ARC USB. However, for longer lengths, RME recommends using active USB 2 cables (also known as extenders or repeaters), which are inexpensive and work at distances over 20 meters.
ARC USB can simultaneously control multiple interfaces, which happens automatically, as the Key Commands dialog in TotalMix FX is specific to the currently selected audio interface. Simply assign only the functions needed for each corresponding interface. After that, the ARC USB keys and encoder wheel remotely control the designated interface without the need for further switching or selecting anything in normal operating mode.
