The Pro-Ject The Classic 2M Blue turntable features a traditional frame design developed by renowned turntable manufacturers in the 1950s and 1960s. It has a compact, simple, and elegant form factor. It combines the approved belt drive construction with a low-noise AC motor and an extremely precise AC frequency generator with a DC drive for maximum speed stability. It also incorporates advanced isolation technology and a completely new tonearm.
The heavy aluminum construction of the main platter utilizes modern thermoplastic elastomers to optimize resonance behavior. One drawback of most old designs was the platter. The Classic platter is precisely cut from a special aluminum alloy, which again offers specific damping properties.
The 9-inch tonearm tube is made of a carbon and aluminum sandwich: carbon for stiffness and speed, aluminum for better damping. The cardan bearing assembly with a Pointed zirconium bearing provides ultra-low friction. The Japanese ball bearing (the basis of the tonearm) allows for better wire tracking and increased freedom of movement. The counterweight includes a TPE* damper that reduces the amplitude of the cartridge tonearm's resonant frequency by 50%. There is also azimuth and VTA adjustment for using different cartridges. The turntable comes with an Ortofon 2M Blue moving magnet cartridge, but thanks to the excellent damping of the tonearm and its medium mass, other MC cartridges can also be mounted on this model.
