Designed for ceiling installation, the Polk Audio VS 900-LS model is part of the Vanishing series (LS subseries). The speaker is tonally matched with regular acoustic systems from the top LSiM line, which is important for building a modern multi-channel system with 3D sound.
This three-way speaker with a round front panel is interesting primarily for its unique driver configuration. The tweeter and midrange driver are positioned on the same plane with a slight tilt relative to the mounting surface, allowing the model to be rotated so that the drivers are always accurately aimed at the listener. The woofer, with a Cassini oval-shaped diaphragm, is installed inside the enclosure behind the panel with these drivers and is angled.
The oval diaphragm has a larger radiating area compared to round membranes of similar-sized conventional drivers. Two shaped ports of the bandpass phase inverter are also located on the front panel, minimizing air exit sounds and helping to achieve deep bass with minimal distortion. According to Polk Audio, this design allows for a full-size soundstage with an impressive dynamic range and wide coverage.
The tweeter features a phase-aligning bullet, a ring radiator, and provides detailed realistic sound reproduction. The 3.25-inch midrange driver has a lightweight stiff diaphragm made of expanded polypropylene with enlarged cell size, ensuring accurate sound without distortion.
The thin Sheer-Grille with magnetic attachment is made of metal and protrudes only 7 mm above the surface for installation. The grille has good acoustic transparency due to its perforated grid with minimal hole size. It can also be painted to match the color of walls and ceilings, making the speaker virtually invisible.
To compensate for room acoustics, the Polk Audio VS 900-LS is equipped with two special filters activated by buttons on the front panel. One works with the tweeter to compensate for the influence of reflective room surfaces by adjusting the volume level of the high-frequency emitter in a specific frequency range, while the other eliminates bass boom when the speaker is close to side walls and corners.
Installation of the Polk Audio VS 900-LS is quick and convenient thanks to the Perfect Fit templates and the patented Rotating Cam mounting system, which helps minimize vibrations.
