Built into the ceiling, the three-way speaker Polk Audio VS 70-RT is similar in design to its older sibling in the VS 90-RT series. The differences are only in the dimensions of the enclosure and the sizes of the drivers - woofer and midrange. This model is fully compatible in sound with the RTi series speakers and can be used in modern home theaters designed to work with popular 3D sound formats such as DTS:X and Dolby Atmos. The speaker can also be used to sound additional zones in various multi-room systems.
The front panel, to which the silk-polymer tweeter and 2.5-inch midrange driver are attached, has a slight tilt which allows these drivers to be accurately directed towards the listener during speaker installation. The woofer has an oval-shaped diffuser and is installed at an angle deep within the enclosure. The speaker's front panel has two bass reflex ports (bandpass type), which eliminate noise from the airflow and enhance the bass. According to the manufacturer, this speaker design increases sound dynamics and ensures a coherent voluminous sound image. The woofer and midrange driver are equipped with lightweight rigid diffusers made from reinforced mineral-filled polypropylene.
The Polk Audio VS 70-RT features a button on the front panel that activates a special rejecting filter, adjusting the tweeter volume in a specific narrow frequency range. When activated, this helps to avoid the "ringing" sound effect that can occur in a reverberant space with open walls due to wave reflections.
To protect and hide the drivers, a very thin seven-millimeter metal grille Sheer-Grille is used, which attaches to the speaker with magnets and has fine perforations that do not affect sound quality. Additionally, this grille can easily be painted any color to "hide" the speaker from the listener's view.
The Polk Audio VS 70-RT speaker can be quickly and easily installed in a pre-prepared niche, aided by Perfect Fit templates and a special Rotating Cam spring anti-vibration system, allowing the speaker to be securely mounted on the ceiling. The speaker is equipped with a pair of spring-loaded gold-plated terminals for cable connection. A branded mounting bracket option is also available.
