The Polk Audio VS 700-LS in-ceiling three-way speaker follows the design of its older sibling, the 900-LS, featuring a similar tweeter but with a more compact body and other drivers. This model is acoustically matched with the flagship LSiM series speakers. It can be used, for example, as in-ceiling speakers when creating a top-of-the-line multi-channel system for playing soundtracks recorded in modern Dolby Atmos or DTS:X 3D sound formats.
The speaker has a round front panel and a unique driver configuration. The tweeter and 2.5-inch mid-range driver are located on a plane with a slight tilt for installation with the speaker facing the listener. The shape of the subwoofer's cone corresponds to the Cassini oval, providing a larger radiating area compared to traditional round cones of the same size. The woofer itself is positioned diagonally behind the tweeter and mid-range drivers. The front panel features two shaped ports (bandpass design) that eliminate airflow noise and deliver clean, deep bass. This design, according to Polk Audio engineers, allows for a sound with a broad dynamic range and impressive soundstage.
The tweeter includes a ring radiator and a phase plug for precise, detailed sound reproduction. The mid-range driver cone is lightweight and rigid, made from a special large-cell foamed polypropylene material.
The Polk Audio VS 700-LS model comes with an acoustically transparent ultra-thin metal Sheer-Grille with very fine perforations and magnetic attachment, which can be painted to match the room's interior.
The speaker has two filters that can be adjusted using buttons on the front panel to tailor the sound to the room's acoustics. One filter compensates for the influence of reflective surfaces by adjusting the tweeter level within a specific frequency range, while the other reduces low-frequency noise when the speakers are positioned close to corners and side walls.
