Novation MiniNova
The Novation MiniNova is a compact analog modeling synthesizer with 37 mini keys. At the heart of its subtractive synthesis are 3 oscillators. In addition to 14 traditional signal waveforms, the MiniNova features 36 wavetable and 20 digital waveforms, 14 filter types, 6 envelope generators, and 3 LFOs. Each patch can have up to 5 effects applied (distortion, reverb, chorus/phase shifter, delay, compressor, EQ, and gate). The synthesizer comes with 256 presets and 128 user patch presets, which are categorized and can be sorted using the data dial.
One of the most interesting features of the synthesizer is the built-in 12-band Vocoder with VocalTune auto-corrector. The detachable dynamic microphone with a gooseneck design connects to the front panel XLR input (no phantom power required) and can be easily removed or replaced. The vocoder presets offer different voice pitch adjustments and synthesized tones, voice distortions, intonations, and more. The synthesizer also includes an additional balanced line input on a 1/4" TRS Jack for applying effects to a microphone or another device connected to this input.
The Novation MiniNova is equipped with a graphical LCD screen that displays patch information and adjustable parameters. Some commonly used synthesizer settings and those that significantly affect the sound are also displayed on the screen. Additionally, there are 24 mechanical parameters for quick access. The synthesizer features eight multi-function pads that can be used to change patch settings or edit the presets of the eight-voice arpeggiator.
Included with the Novation MiniNova is a DAW plugin that allows you to customize all the synthesizer parameters and control them from your computer. The synthesizer offers 18-note polyphony and is powered by the UltraNova Sound Engine, borrowed from the flagship UltraNova model. While some functionality is reduced in the MiniNova, all the basic functions of the flagship model are present. Free plugins with vintage synthesizers can also be downloaded and used with the MiniNova. The synthesizer includes MIDI input and output for connecting to your DAW, another synthesizer, or a MIDI keyboard. The modulation and pitch wheels, LCD indicators, and sustain pedal jack are also found on the housing.
