Description

The Neumann TLM 107 is a modern condenser microphone that offers a wide range of capabilities and high-quality sound reproduction. It is perfect for recording, mixing, and post-production. The microphone features a new converter that provides exceptional impulse accuracy and offers a choice of 5 polar patterns: omnidirectional, cardioid, figure-8, wide cardioid, and hypercardioid. The TLM 107 ensures accurate sound reproduction across the entire frequency range and has a balanced sound with a nearly linear frequency response up to 8 kHz. It also has a slight boost beyond this range, giving vocals or instruments a fresh and present effect. Engineers have paid special attention to factors such as natural speech reproduction and upgraded the grille to reduce sensitivity to plosive sounds. The capsules are also more protected against dust and moisture.

The transformerless design of the microphone provides high-frequency response linearity and a wide dynamic range. The self-noise of this new model is just 10 dB, making it practically inaudible, and the stability of these characteristics is not dependent on the specific microphone unit. The microphone has a maximum SPL level of 147 dB, which can be increased to 153 dB thanks to the built-in attenuation. It also features filter settings at 40 Hz and 100 Hz, which are commonly used in sound recording to cut out low-frequency noise interference and optimize recording vocals.

The microphone has an innovative management concept, allowing all functions to be controlled through a single navigation button. The chromed frame of the microphone is illuminated, and LED indicators display the current settings for attenuation and low-cut filter. To avoid distracting singers, the switch and display are located on the back of the microphone, and the illumination automatically turns off after 15 seconds of inactivity.

Some key features of the microphone include:

  • Large-diaphragm microphone
  • 5 polar patterns: omnidirectional, wide cardioid, cardioid, hypercardioid, and figure-eight
  • Intuitive control with a single navigation button
  • LED indication on the body for quick viewing of current settings
  • Attenuation switches (0 dB, -6 dB, -12 dB) and low-cut filter switches (40 Hz, 100 Hz)

Diaphragm size
large diaphragm

These microphones are very sensitive. They require an external power supply and are hung up to ceiling

Directional characteristic switch
yes
Impedance, Ohms

No higher than 32 Ohms for smartphone headphones. When using a good player or amplifier, it can be up to 100 Ohms. For stationary models you should coordinate the impedance with the amplifier power

Microphone polar pattern

Omnidirectional, cardioid and supercardioid. It determines the sensitivity of the microphone to sound relative to the direction or angle, i.e. shows how well the microphone "hears" sound from different sides

Glossary of terms
hypercardioid

Unidirectional polar pattern of the microphone.

Словарь терминов
Microphone type
condenser

A metal membrane consisting of plates (a condenser) oscillates under the influence of sound air flows converting a sound wave into an electromagnetic one.

Signal-to-noise ratio, dB

The higher signal-to-noise ratio, the clearer sound and the bigger the dynamic range provided by the system
