    Description

In the C338, Hypex amplifiers are used, but these are not standard boards, they are modified by NAD specialists. One of the features of the circuit is the absence of capacitors in the signal path, which helps reduce losses and various distortions.

One of the key elements of the circuit is the proprietary low-noise and low-ripple power supply block. Despite its compact size, it provides instant delivery of high currents, which, combined with a class D amplifier, promises fast and dynamic sound. If we're not talking about Direct Digital technology, a class D amplifier is an analog device and does not work with digital signals.

Looking inside, the NAD C338 features: a power supply block, a motherboard with an ARM processor, three antennas feeders leading to Bluetooth and Wi-Fi antennas sticking out, lots of electronics, shielded radio modules, and ribbons.

Closer to the connectors, there is a phono stage block covered with a thick aluminum casing. DAC: Burr-Brown PCM1796, installed on a separate board together with the output stage. After the DAC, in the analog part of the board, Burr-Brown OPA623 and L49725 operational amplifiers are used. Before the DAC, there is a digital receiver of a different brand—CS8416 from Cirrus Logic, supporting (like PCM1796) a maximum sampling frequency of 192 kHz.

The NAD C338 has two optical and two coaxial inputs, two more regular analog inputs, and a third analog input connected to the built-in MM type phono stage. This is where the list of more or less typical inputs ends and the most interesting part begins. The amplifier has built-in Bluetooth and Wi-Fi and exclusively supports Chromecast protocol. This makes the network connection an input. The built-in receiver only serves as a playback device, with file selection and control happening on a tablet, smartphone, or computer from which Chromecast streaming is done. The C338 also has a separate output for a subwoofer, which is convenient as it eliminates the need for adapters and additional cables that could disrupt the sound harmony.
