KEF R5 Meta is the entry-level three-way floorstanding speaker system in the R series, featuring a powerful array of 12th generation Uni-Q drivers now incorporating Metamaterial Absorption Technology (MAT).
Key Features:
- Metamaterial Absorption Technology (MAT) eliminates 99% of high-frequency distortion
- 12th generation Uni-Q driver with MAT technology
- Enhanced crossover design for clean signal transmission
- Optimized cabinet construction for optimal acoustic performance
The KEF Meta speakers embody the highest standards of KEF's quality, as reflected in the series name - "reference." The flagship series represents absolute harmony in content and form, complete self-sufficiency, and distinct individuality. The KEF R5 sets the benchmark in every aspect, from its aesthetics and quality craftsmanship to its acoustic characteristics and impressive array of innovative technologies.
Standard Sound
The R5 Meta speakers are designed for serious audiophiles who strive for the highest enjoyment of music and movie listening. Listeners will experience realistic and immersive sound with stunning dynamics and a level of authenticity that reveals previously unheard details. Whether the sound is reproduced through a traditional stereo pair or a multi-channel home theater, the Meta speakers deliver transparent and realistic sound, powerful and dynamic, with clean, richly articulated bass.
12th Generation Uni-Q Driver
The KEF Uni-Q module provides clean and precise reproduction, wide dispersion, and pure, uncolored sound. The Uni-Q driver with MAT technology has been specially designed to achieve the perfectly clean characteristics that a flagship KEF speaker should have. The Uni-Q ensures consistently pleasant, clear, and lyrical high frequencies regardless of the volume level. The new magnet system design for the midrange driver with ultra-low distortion reduces the coefficient of nonlinear distortion (THD) in the mid-frequency range and reduces thermal compression, resulting in increased efficiency.
The technology of the absorbing metamaterial (MAT) absorbs 99% of unwanted sound
The new design of the Meta series acoustic systems features the use of an absorbing metamaterial that effectively absorbs 99% of unwanted sounds. MAT technology can be described as revolutionary, as the material used exhibits properties that do not exist in naturally occurring substances.
The bass of reference quality
The 130 mm (5-inch) low-frequency driver of the R5 model complements the new array of 12th-generation Uni-Q drivers. Meticulous engineering and attention to detail allow the bass to harmoniously blend with impeccable mid and high frequencies.
The low-frequency driver also benefits from a massive magnetic system, a large aluminum voice coil, and a very lightweight, yet rigid aluminum diaphragm. As a result of all these technologies, we achieve exceptional sound volume, dynamics, and power.
Flexible and easy to use
The R5 Meta speakers are easy to place and can be easily adjusted to your listening area using KEF's innovative Flexible Port Technology. This technology, featuring an adjustable port, reduces resonances inside the port. The package includes two options for the phase inversion port, allowing users to adjust the sound according to the size of the room. Additionally, the shape and design of each port have been calculated using computational hydrodynamics to avoid turbulence and noise that could affect the sound quality.
Revealing intricate details
The Shadow Flare significantly reduces harmful cabinet diffraction, allowing the Uni-Q driver to perform at its highest level. The precisely designed surface expands the waveguide effect of the Uni-Q driver, leading to improved clarity, particularly when it comes to subtle nuances of plucked strings and other percussion sounds.
Computer-modeled enclosures
All enclosures in the Meta series are designed using finite element analysis to determine the ideal shape and placement of braces in order to minimize secondary radiation from the side walls. Constrained Layer Damping is employed to convert any remaining vibrations into heat.
Exquisite finishing
The finishing of the enclosures is in line with the sophisticated design: luxurious gloss or noble matte finish with natural veneer. The finishing options are created by combining three colors for the enclosure with five colors for the diffuser: walnut with a satin front panel in silver and the same finish for the central driver cone; white gloss enclosure with a white front panel and a bright blue or champagne-colored driver; deep black enclosure with a 12th-generation Uni-Q driver featuring a subtly dark gray cone or a contrasting copper finish.
