Late Registration is the second studio album by American rapper Kanye West, released on August 30, 2005. The album was recorded over the course of a year at various studios in New York City and Hollywood. West collaborated with producer Jon Brion during the recording. The album featured guest appearances by Jay-Z, Lupe Fiasco, Jamie Foxx, Nas, Brandy, and Adam Levine of Maroon 5. The album debuted at number one on the Billboard 200, selling 860,000 copies in its first week. It has sold over 3 million copies in the United States. The album spawned five charting singles. Upon its release, Late Registration received critical acclaim from most music critics and earned West several awards, including a Grammy Award for Best Rap Album. Rolling Stone magazine, which named Late Registration the best album of 2005, placed the album at number 40 on its list of the best albums of the 2000s.
