The sound of Summit Makalu is based on an 8-inch (200 mm) low-frequency driver with a cast frame and a 12-inch (300 mm) low-frequency driver with a cast frame, both featuring a three-layer hybrid carbon plastic composite cone (HC4) made from carbon fiber and pure cellulose surfaces connected by a foam core. This hybrid cone construction provides the necessary rigidity, overall mass, and structure for high performance, low distortion, and high power.
Signal distribution control for each driver in Summit Makalu is achieved through the MultiCap™ crossover network with single-wire connection and bi-wire amplifier connection.
By replacing traditional large capacitors with a greater number of smaller capacitors, the design offers lower ESR (electrostatic resistance) and lower losses. This provides greater signal bandwidth for the drivers, improved manageability, enhanced dynamics, extremely low distortion, and exceptional clarity of sound.
All drivers and crossover components are housed in a beautifully designed enclosure with inwardly offset multi-tier supports and a damped curved wall construction to minimize standing waves inside the enclosure. The enclosures are offered in various options: glossy black finish with Summit platinum accents or glossy black wood veneer with Summit gold accents.
To secure the Summit Makalu to the floor, a high-load damping stand with specially designed isolating JBL | IsoAcoustic® feet is used to resist vibrations from the speaker system, effectively isolating the loudspeaker from the surface it is placed on. This isolation provides richer bass, improved soundstage, and clearer imaging with a greater sense of space.
