FOCUSRITE Scarlett 18i20 3rd Gen is a professional USB audio interface from the 3rd generation Scarlett series, featuring 18 inputs and 20 outputs. The 3rd generation devices have improved sound characteristics, reduced distortion and noise levels, and expanded dynamic range. The input signal level from the microphone preamps has been increased, and the interface now includes the Focusrite AIR function, which changes the preamp frequency response to emulate the characteristics of ISA transformer microphone preamps for each channel.
The Direct Monitor function has also been enhanced: now you can listen to your recordings without any delay in both mono and stereo modes. The front panel of the device includes gain controls, INST/AIR/Pad/48V buttons, two headphone outputs with individual volume controls, and a master volume knob. The interface supports sampling rates up to 24-bit 192 kHz.
For connections, there are 8 combined XLR/TRS microphone/line inputs, 2 on the front and 6 on the rear panel, equipped with ring indicator gain controls to adjust input signal levels. The rear panel also features 10 TRS outputs, S/PDIF and ADAT digital input and output connectors, MIDI In/Out ports, and a USB-C port. Additionally, the interface is equipped with a built-in talkback function and a BNC output for synchronization with external equipment. The audio interface is compatible with macOS and does not require the installation of special drivers.
The audio interface comes with an extensive software bundle: Avid Pro Tools First Focusrite Creative Pack, Ableton Live Lite, Softube Time and Tone Bundle, Focusrite Red Plug-in Suite, any instrument from the XLN Audio Addictive Keys pack, as well as a three-month subscription to the Splice service. Additionally, users gain access to the Focusrite Plug-in Collective resource, where they can obtain free versions of new software and discounts. Routing and mixing can be done through the built-in Focusrite Control software, available for Mac, PC, and iOS devices.
