In SP3, a 3.5-inch midrange driver made of carbon fiber is used, larger than in typical products in its class. These larger drivers have inherent advantages over smaller low-frequency drivers in projecting a larger soundstage and other sound characteristics. Whether you are watching movies or listening to music, this driver is truly capable of conveying the beauty of sound even at higher volumes.
Carbon fiber is extremely durable and very rigid, yet lightweight - ideal properties for speakers. The lightweight nature of carbon fiber allows the driver to provide fast transient response, while the high strength and rigidity reduce nonlinear distortions, minimizing unwanted secondary vibrations when the driver moves during sound reproduction. Overall, the carbon fiber material of the driver helps accurately reproduce sound and allows you to immerse yourself more deeply in high-quality listening.
Each fiber in the SP3 is only 0.007mm thick - the thickness of a single hair. These fibers are woven together to reinforce sound quality by ensuring a wrinkle-free membrane, as well as making the diaphragm more robust and resistant to crack formation after prolonged use.
To truly bring out powerful bass and unleash the full potential of the SP3, the development team created an asymmetrical internal and external magnetic chain system. By adding an auxiliary magnet to the center of the internal SP3 elements to form internal and external magnetic chains, a magnetic flux of up to 1.2 Tesla is generated. This strong magnetic force behind the driver gives the SP3 dynamic sound quality. Additionally, the asymmetrical internal and external magnets help reduce nonlinear distortions across all frequencies, ensuring good sound quality regardless of the music you are listening to.
In active desktop speakers, the tweeter often plays a decisive role in reproducing the smallest musical details, instrumental overtones, and overall high-frequency resolution. In the SP3, unlike many other active desktop speakers using a 0.94-inch tweeter, a 1-inch tweeter is used instead, capable of producing frequencies up to 35kHz. The aluminum voice coil tweeter with copper coating ensures that even at high volumes, super-high frequencies remain uncompressed - resulting in superior reproduction of high frequencies even when listening off-axis, as well as high-resolution high frequencies with a natural timbre. With the SP3, you can hear even the finest vibrations generated by instruments.
When creating the FiiO SP3, the development team took into account many factors when selecting tweeter material. The silk part of the tweeter also acts as a wave absorber, effectively absorbing unwanted sound waves behind the driver and further enhancing the sound emitted by the tweeter. Low resonant frequency and high current bandwidth have always been goals for those developing high-quality audio products. FiiO SP3 is equipped with a large empty space in the rear of the tweeter magnet, allowing the tweeter to reproduce frequencies up to an impressive 800Hz. Even when the tweeter reproduces frequencies above 20kHz, the rear cavity and overall tweeter construction provide an outlet for unwanted sound waves, reducing resonances created by tweeter movement. The result is silky-smooth, yet extended high frequencies.
With a real-life test, the frequency response curve of the SP3 is smooth, with balanced bass, mids, and highs, mostly representing a straight line. It is worth noting that the effective low-frequency amplification can reach 65Hz, which has practically no analogue in its class. When watching movies or listening to tracks with ultra-low frequencies, the listening experience will completely shock and stimulate every nerve in your auditory system. In the high-frequency part, thanks to the 1-inch tweeter, there is no frequency range drop from 10 to 20kHz, maintaining linearity and smoothness of the curve and ideal reproduction of HiFi sound.
To ensure outstanding sound quality, the speakers were tuned and designed to optimize the transmission of sound waves to the listener. The tweeter is positioned at the exact angle that provides almost lossless transmission of sound waves for listeners within a range of 0 to ±15° off-axis, so users do not need to listen in a specific position, making speaker placement more convenient. Additionally, the horizontal striped pattern in front of the tweeter has been devised to let sound waves emanating from the tweeter pass through for more efficient sound propagation throughout the room, significantly improving the perceived soundstage and creating the illusion of being in a large concert hall.
