New Material
The new BCT diffusers used in midrange and low-frequency speakers set the standard. These BCT speakers are the result of years of development and guarantee high dynamics and sound accuracy. For exceptional accuracy and clarity in the high-frequency range, the new tweeters are equipped with BC diffusers made of black aluminum ceramic. The housing of the Reference 1 speakers has been acoustically optimized and has a seamless construction, providing limitless connection between partitions, rear, and side panels. This design sets new standards in terms of dispersion, stability, and low resonance.
Design and Technology
Great attention is paid to the craftsmanship of hand-made Reference 1 speakers. The enclosures are divided into three chambers, which perfectly correspond to the different parts of the 3-way speaker construction. This allows each of the five speakers to fully reveal its sound qualities. Low frequencies are reproduced by three 219mm woofers with ceramic tungsten diffusers. They, together with the newly developed bass guide, provide clear and dynamic reproduction of low frequencies down to 18 Hertz. The 174mm midrange speaker uses the same diaphragm material as the woofers, providing smooth dynamics of midrange frequencies. The midrange speaker is intentionally placed in the upper part of the speaker and makes a significant contribution to the faithful reproduction of voices and presence on the stage. The speakers are recessed in a round partition and complemented by special overlay rings ASW (Asymmetric Waveguide) made of POM material. These rings act as waveguides in the tweeter and midrange, optimizing dispersion.
Pure Power
To control the dynamics that Reference 1 can deliver, the curved side panels, as well as the rear and top panels, are made of a multilayer laminate. The 60mm thick front panel is milled from solid wood. Thanks to well-thought-out internal reinforcement and precisely calculated damping of the enclosure, Canton creates perfect conditions for the full development of sound from the newly developed Reference speakers. New protective rings, as well as high-class connecting terminals, are made of polyoxymethylene (POM) - an extremely strong and rigid plastic with high density, excellent internal damping, and better formability. The fine-pored silky-matte surface, coated with a thin layer of lacquer, gives a noble look and makes the material even more durable.
Bass Phase Inverter
Canton's unique bass phase inverter system with a low-frequency guide has been redesigned along with many other elements. In this system, the bass phase inverter port is integrated into the enclosure and operates on the principle of a combined front and back impact. Air is controlled through a channel in the support plate and directed to both the front and back of the enclosure. This achieves an amazingly stable bass response, regardless of the position in the room.
