German company Canton has expanded its GLE series of theater speakers with a compact model GLE 406. The new product is designed for wall or ceiling mounting and can be used both for the rear channels of a home theater surround sound system and for Dolby Atmos and DTS:X ceiling channels.
Measuring just 24 x 9 x 24 cm, it is a full-fledged two-way monitor in a closed acoustic design, allowing it to be mounted to a surface without any clearance. An inch tweeter with a rigid dome made of aluminum and magnesium alloy is complemented here by a 15.4-cm-diameter mid/woofer driver made of aluminum. The crossover section frequency is 3.2 kHz. The protective grill, which completely covers the front panel of the speaker, is prepared for painting in the color of the surface on which the speaker will be mounted.
The GLE series gets its distinctive balanced sound from high performance woofers and agile midrange speakers: The polycarbonate loudspeaker baskets are equipped with aluminium cone membranes and surrounds with the latest generation of wave technology. The speakers also benefit from the tried and tested aluminium-manganese tweeter system. A crossover network that works in perfect harmony with the rear-facing bass reflex opening completes the technical setup and lays the foundations for outstanding sound.
The tried and tested, high-precision aluminium-manganese tweeter system transmits music signals up to 40,000 Hz. The transmission front plate acts as a wave surround and supports the dispersion characteristics of the system.
