Equipped with a USB XMOS decoding chip and using the mature and stable OPA926 driver chip, the DAC chip utilizes the flagship model ESS ES9038Q2M in the field of portable applications. The front panel features 2.5mm and 3.5mm outputs. Gain and low-frequency switches are also located there, along with the volume knob and LED indicator. The back panel includes a line out, coaxial and optical outputs, USB 1.0/2.0 switch, and USB Type-C connector for PC/smartphone connection.
This model features a USB receiver based on the XMOS interface, capable of receiving signals with parameters up to 32-bit / 384 kHz (PCM) and DSD256. A dual-color LED is used to determine the type of input signal in the amplifier. The FiiO K3S can also function as a DAC for a desktop computer or laptop, making it a truly versatile device. The DAC is equipped with a dual clock generator (for signals with different frequency grids), making data processing very precise and reducing jitter.
When listening to music, the bass is very tidy, controlled, and powerful, with a good body and impact. The bass resolution is very good, as well as the attack. Its decay is also quite impressive, as the bass does not smear around. The low frequencies sound very clean, as well as the overall spectrum.
