The ADAM S3V is a professional active three-way midfield studio monitor designed for both professional studios, musicians, and audiophiles. It is part of the S series by the German manufacturer ADAM Audio. One of the main features of this monitor is the triple amplification scheme (tri-amp): meaning that the signal for low, mid, and high frequencies is separately amplified. Class D (low frequencies) and A/B (high frequencies) amplifiers are used: 500 W are provided for the low-frequency driver, 300 W for the mid-range, and 50 W for the tweeter. This monitor reproduces the full frequency range of high-resolution audio with high clarity and crystal accuracy.
The 9” Extended Linear Excursion (ELE) woofer in the ADAM S3V utilizes a hexagonal HexaCone driver, consisting of an aramid-plastic core with a honeycomb structure. The front and rear parts of the cone are coated with Kevlar, which helps the diaphragm resist deformation. HexaCone is a much stiffer material compared to traditional paper, polypropylene, or aluminum typically used in drivers of similar sizes. This stiffness prevents distortion and damage to the cone, while the effective length and diameter of the voice coils combined with magnet sizes and cabinet volume are precisely balanced for optimal reproduction of low frequencies.
The 4” DCH mid-frequency driver with its unique hybrid dome/cone construction handles crucial midrange information with utmost precision, while the proprietary S-ART 2.2” ribbon tweeter by ADAM Audio, handmade in Berlin, delivers captivating high frequencies and expands the sound stage beautifully. The tweeter is powered by a specially designed Class A/B amplifier. Off-axis responses of the HF and MF drivers remain extremely accurate thanks to the proprietary solid aluminum waveguides – MPS (MF) and HPS (HF). As a result, stable and wide dispersion ensures that several people can be in the optimal listening zone, which is essential for group work. Connections include XLR connectors: one analog input, one digital AES3 input, and one AES3 output. The rear panel also features an OLED display for settings display.
The specially designed DSP for the S series in ADAM S3V optimizes crossovers to create linear responses throughout the entire range, provides proper equalization, and ensures the correct function of settings. The DSP also protects the HF driver with a limiter, processes signals from the digital AES3 inputs, and enables various expansion options. Software updates can be easily done through the USB port, which also allows users to connect computers and control the monitor's DSP functions using software.
