Description

Universal Audio SC-1 is a studio condenser microphone.

Features:

  • Microphone type: condenser
  • Frequency range: 20 Hz - 20,000 Hz
  • Polar pattern: cardioid
  • Sensitivity: -39 dB
  • Output impedance: 200 ohms
  • Maximum sound pressure level: 145 dB
  • Suitable for recording vocals, speech, acoustic guitars, and guitar cabinets
  • Includes Hemisphere Mic Modelling application for modeling the sound of other microphones

Universal Audio company produces a large-diaphragm condenser microphone that comes with Hemisphere microphone modeling software.

The microphone is suitable for recording vocals, acoustic guitar, strings, or loud guitar cabinets due to its ability to handle sound pressure levels up to 145 dB. Additionally, it is claimed that the ultra-linear microphone circuitry and expanded dynamic range can deliver distortion-free results at both low and high frequencies.

Universal Audio SC-1 is positioned by the manufacturer as a flexible and versatile model that can easily replace a whole range of microphones. The device stands out for its "expanded dynamic range and extremely low distortion", making it a suitable choice for recording vocals, speech, acoustic guitars, and guitar cabinets.

The main feature of the device is the Hemisphere Mic Modelling application for modeling the sound of other microphones. The program includes profiles of most popular vintage models, such as Neumann, SONY, AKG, and other companies. It is noted that the application can be used not only with SC-1 but also with previously released models SD-1 and SP-1.

In addition to microphone profiles, the application allows users to customize additional sound and signal transmission parameters. For example, it is possible to control proximity effect, change the horizontal and vertical microphone position in space, as well as filter any frequency ranges.

It is noted that Hemisphere Mic Modelling has been tightly integrated with Universal Audio Apollo audio interfaces. This means that the application will work natively on sound card chips and provide low latency for sound transmission and processing.

Impedance, Ohms

No higher than 32 Ohms for smartphone headphones. When using a good player or amplifier, it can be up to 100 Ohms. For stationary models you should coordinate the impedance with the amplifier power

Microphone polar pattern

Omnidirectional, cardioid and supercardioid. It determines the sensitivity of the microphone to sound relative to the direction or angle, i.e. shows how well the microphone "hears" sound from different sides

Glossary of terms
cardioid

The polar pattern of the microphone that picks up the sound in front of it.
