Description

The Shure BETA 91A is a microphone designed specifically for bass drums. It delivers impressive low-frequency performance and offers maximum gain before feedback, thanks to its semi-cardioid polar pattern. The discreet design and two-position switch for tonal compensation ensure optimal signal response and clear sound.

The semi-cardioid polar pattern means that this microphone captures sound primarily from the front while rejecting off-axis sound sources and reflections. To achieve the best results, place sound sources within 60 degrees above the mounting surface.

Compared to the BETA 91 model, the BETA 91A features an upgraded microphone capsule that provides a more natural extension of high frequencies.

Key Features:

  • Uniform semi-cardioid polar pattern for maximum gain before feedback and rejection of off-axis sound sources and reflections
  • Built-in preamplifier and XLR connector for efficient and clutter-free setup on stage
  • Tailored frequency response for bass drums and low-frequency instruments, allowing for wide dynamic range even in high sound pressure environments
  • Two-position contour switch for adjusting attack and clarity according to the application: choose a flat frequency response for a natural sound in most scenarios, or select the "low-mid scoop" setting for powerful, punchy bass with extended attack in higher frequencies.
  • No need for additional holders or mounts for installation.

The package includes the Shure BETA 91A instrument microphone, a storage pouch, and documentation.

Microphone polar pattern

Omnidirectional, cardioid and supercardioid. It determines the sensitivity of the microphone to sound relative to the direction or angle, i.e. shows how well the microphone "hears" sound from different sides

Glossary of terms
cardioid

The polar pattern of the microphone that picks up the sound in front of it.

Microphone type
condenser

A metal membrane consisting of plates (a condenser) oscillates under the influence of sound air flows converting a sound wave into an electromagnetic one.

Phantom power

Necessary for condenser microphones

Glossary of terms
yes

Simultaneous transmission of DC power and information signals over one wire.
