Description

Shanling UA5 - digital-to-analog conversion using two ES9038Q2M DAC chips.

The UA5 takes portable digital-to-analog converters to a whole new level. The additional wheel provides independent volume control, while the monochrome OLED display gives access to all additional settings. The specially selected 4.4mm balanced connector ensures reliable connection, and the dedicated power mode ensures stable performance from the hybrid battery.

Hybrid Battery Mode

Upon turning on, some circuits of the UA5 will still operate from the USB power source, such as the USB controller and FPGA matrix. However, crucial parts like the DAC and amplifier will use cleaner power from the built-in battery. This ensures stable analog performance and low noise levels, regardless of the quality of the USB power of the connected device.

The reduced power consumption allows compatibility with certain devices that usually can't provide sufficient power for portable USB DACs. The UA5 can operate in standard mode with USB power, where the battery is fully disconnected and all UA5 circuits run from USB. The UA5 automatically switches to this mode when the battery is too low.

Dedicated Headphone Amplifier

Two Ricore RT6863 amplifiers complement the ESS DAC chips, creating a fully balanced UA5 circuit and providing output power up to 211mW for your headphones.

High-performance ESS DAC

Thanks to its proprietary FPGA system and high-precision quartz oscillator, the UA5 can handle all data with increased accuracy and precision, supporting PCM 32-bit/768kHz and DSD512 formats.

3.5mm, 4.4mm, and Coaxial Digital Outputs

Connect using the 3.5mm jack for regular headphones or the balanced 4.4mm output to fully unleash the potential of the UA5. The UA5 can also be used as a USB to coaxial SPDIF converter, providing a high-quality connection between smartphones and home systems with SPDIF input.

Ultra-low Noise Level

The Shanling engineers believe that an extremely "black background" with zero unwanted noise is crucial for proper high-quality sound. The UA5 is designed strictly according to this approach.

Choice of Cable

The UA5 comes with a high-quality copper USB-C to USB-A cable. However, thanks to the standard USB cable connector, it can be switched to a wide range of cables, differing in construction or length, to perfectly match your Android phone, computer, or even iOS device.

Power output

This is the useful power developed by the amplifier in the load resistance. Amplifiers are usually characterized by the highest power that can be obtained at the output, provided that the distortion does not exceed the specified permissible value. This power is called the output power of the amplifier.
